He is terrible, 750K for a pub player, great bit of business. Lest you forget he was part of a great back four which kept a succession of clean sheets.

i never thought he was that good really, every now and again he would show touches of class, but not often enough in my book.

Lest you forget he was part of a great back four which kept a succession of clean sheets. It took until the 2nd page for this line to come out?!?! Hoef lovers are slipping! The basic fact about Hoefkens is sure he can get forward well but the defensive side of his game is very poor. However I actually think if he'd of stayed at Stoke and worked with TP on the defensive side of his game he had the attributes to be a very good right back. In the short time of him being with TP the defensive side of his game improved no end compared to when the dutch clown was in charge. His main problem is he couldn't do either the right midfield or right back roles to the required level of competance and seemingly didn't want to get back to basics. I remember his interviews about moaning about 'not getting forward as much' when playing RB for TP. Well h'es was allowed go forward for all he was worth under the clueless Mowbray earlier this season and I saw him get his arse handed to him on a plate on numerous occasions!

Carl was a decent player for us and he certainly doesn't deserve to get 'slagged off'. It's true that TP wasn't that impressed with him and I presume that stemmed from his tendency to give away goal with his inability to get back and defend the back post. There's no doubting he's e decent footballer and will do a CCC club a great job and even TP said that Carl grew on him towards the end. The truth is TP felt that there were better players in that position and the money we got for him was, in my opinion, a good deal for us.
Carl deserves our thanks for his part in our climb from obscurity and I wish him well.

A decent footballer and by all accounts a really good bloke. Carl had nothing but good things to say about Stoke. He always gave 100% and he did not cost that much money, yet folk on here choose to slag him off, it beggars belief it really does. Are they jelous of his good looks and gorgeous wife...that must be it! Spot on, I wish him nothing but well in his career and future life. TBH, if he was offered a 3 fold increase in wages to go to WBA, course he'd go, putting aside our Stoke loyalties, we'd all do the same

I wonder is OS is referring to Ashley Cole being a f***ing w****r, an arrogant little g*bs**t who has a complete lack of respect for authority. I don't have any problem with Chelsea, but I f***ing hate Cole

I was a big fan of Hoef at right back (not so much at centre half) and I appreciated his efforts for us in his two seasons here, especially where he was part of our excellent defence.
He's clearly not up to it in the Prem though - can't even get a game in the worst defence in the league, and I wouldn't want him back.

I think we all know where the sun shines from, don't we AGSF! Pulis dropped one forcing Carl out of the club for a pittance. Its quite clear that only now, two seasons later, with a rapidly improved Wilko do we have someone that actually makes that right-back spot their own. Like him or not, forcing Hoefkens out of the club when he did was a bad move.

Hoef forced out???
He can say what he likes in the press about loving the area and how much he liked his time at Stoke. He engineered a treble your money move, good on him. Don't think he'll be retaining his current pay pack though once he moves.
Don't wash your dirty linen in public, that's simple. Mard Arse of the highest order.
I'm not slagging him off I liked him as a player. He wouldn't get a game now though we've moved on.
Now then Ashley Cole is a TWATTER...plain and simple

I'll never forget his debut home game when he did that little flick to win the penatly and got up and thumped the air towards the boothen. Decent player who deserved the Player of the Season awards he picked up but this doesn't hide from the fact that I'd prefer Ronnie Corbett at the back post when an high ball comes in.

Sorry, H, but we have to agree to disagree on this one just as we do with your heroine, Maggie. What I saw of Ashley Cole last night was one of the worst performances I've ever seen from an England fullback. Without the baggage he carries, that was a truly awful performance. But, I'm being selective...just as those who say Hoff was a rubbish player for us . He was no such thing. Yes, he had his faults, but he was still an excellent player in The Championship. He's stepped up a level and cannot hack it. He shares something in common with another one of our players of the season, Lawrence. Neither have stepped up to the plate in this division. And, I wouldn't have him back either. Wilko is a far better player IMHO. My thoughts on his current situation is that, unless he and Mowbray are completely at odds, he should stay where he is because he is better suited to a lower league. OS.

Lets think shall we. Wenger Mourinho Scolari Hiddink Capello or Mick Norcop who rated Junior as a player for us. I think I know who's judgment I'll trust thanks! Seriously he may have given the ball away a fair bit put he also battled for everything in the air and on the ground. If you want to have a go at someone then it has to be Ferdinand. He has no pace, swans around the pitch like he owns it and has to be the most overrated player in the squad. It was also his fault for the Ukrainian goal. H

H Ferdinand was at fault for the goal no doubt - players make mistakes. To say he is overated and has no pace is stupid. He is by far the best centre half the country has. As for Cole, he's a decent player, but has not progressed since he left Arsenal and last night he was shocking, along with Lampard, Gerrard Crouch, SWP, Lennon etc. England will never win anything until they can learn to control a football. Hoefkens - good player for us in the Championship, Pulis didn't fancy him so let him go, to the the chagrin of some including me at the time but we got excellent money for him. Proved himself not good enough for the Prem. Hindsight is marvellous. Can't see why he's coming in for the abuse he has, but that can only be expected from certain people who don't know any other way.

Pugsley:
I know we don't agree on Ferdinand mate (different thread last week) and that's Ok, we all have an opinion, but there are plenty of people that don't rate him anywhere near as highly as we are lead to believe. United improved imeasurably when Vidic came along and they had been pretty average through the middle until then.
I was wrong last week to say that he was 'shit' but he is just so over-rated for me.

Let me tell you something (and you won't agree but I don't care) if Rio played for anyone but United, the 'plenty' of people would become a handful.
What do you think of Gerrard?

Post by RAF on Apr 2, 2009 13:48:30 GMT
No he isn't. I rate Terry and King more highly. You only have to watch Manure play without Vidic to see where Ferdinand goes missing gets caught out of position and regularly gets skinned. And it has fuck all to do with him playing for Manure either.
