I did advise him to stop digging a hole for himself. It gets deeper by the day. ;D

All Acres said at the end of the Shawcross interview, was, 'Ryan Shawcross, there's a man who likes to begin every reply with Yeah definitely.' Me and Norwich Stokie were driving away and after four 'Yeah definitelys' were going 'Yeah, definitely' in anticipation to each answer, and we were 'Yeah definitelying' all the way along the A50. I wouldn't write in a match report though. Correspondent Alexander seems to understand nothing about context. ...Following in the fine footsteps of Mark "y'know" Stein.

Ah well then everything’s fine now Jeremy has spoken. He accuses us of being Philistines and then tries to take the moral high ground by accusing people of personal abuse. I was one of the ones who wrote to him apparently abusive and vitriolic, strange I remember being overly polite by comparison with Jeremy’s original article. I also remember reading most of the replied that some members of this board sent to him, now unless they were lying and actually sprinkled their actual letters with vitriol and abuse I am guessing Mr Alexander is once more being rather liberal with the truth.
As for your excuse concerning the uncalled for abuse of Ryan, well again that’s okay then isn’t it Jeremy. As you weren’t as bad as some local reporter so it’s not really insulting. It’s like Jack the Ripper coming from the shadows and saying, hey compared to Ted Bundy I didn’t do anything I am decent bloke by comparison.
I think Jeremy was surprised by the sheer feeling of Stoke supporters about his own vitriolic article that he now attempts to justify his claims by saying how much abuse he received that only one person was polite to him and worthy of a reply. Rather than just admitting he got it wrong with Ryan and the passionate support for this club he decides to take the moral high ground once more and look down on the Philistines from on high, sadly for Jeremy the moral high ground he’s standing on is made of sand and it’s sliding from beneath his sainted feet.

Strange also he seemed surprised that there would be a high percentage of Guardian readers in one of the strongest Labour areas of modern political times.
Not only is he supercillious and uninteresting, it appears he's also unaware of the political landscape. Twatter.

I don't think it's so much that as he thinks the Guardian is too intellekshooal for us grimy plebians in the provinces.

What a paradoxical world it is. I stopped reading the Sport when Simon Hoggart's column was replaced by "Cheryl, 18 from Gateshead"

while i appreciate that every answer began with yeh definately, every question was positive and so that was why it was answered that way. If the question was "Ryan were you the worst player on the pitch" ? I'm quite sure the young man would not have said yeh definately.
If you are asking things like " well Ryan was that a massive win for you" then yeh definately is the bloody answer.

" but my 'definite' aside about Ryan Shawcross, which also seemed to rile some, was nothing compared with the throwaway line of the local radio interviewer at the end. "
Compared with:
"Your fellow fans have pointed out all sorts of faults in the behaviour of players from other clubs as if they believe I approve of them. I don't and, given the chance, condemn them"
Wait, so if we compare our players to other players, it doesn't matter, they're all condemnable. But if it's Jeremy Alexander, journo, HE gets to point the finger and say "Well he did it worse than me". The barefaced hypocrisy! Shawcross deserves an apology, but it seems none is forthcoming from this wretch.
Somebody posted on here two or three days ago that a response was forthcoming, and it took till now for Mr Alexander to compose this?? Jesus. I'm sure he's busy brushing up on his ancient history, since he was schooled in it by some of our fellow posters.

Is that it? I wouldn't have bothered if I were you Jeremy and I sincerely hope you don't have the "misfortune" to report on any Premier League fixtures at the Brit next season (because we WILL still be here to annoy you!)

Once again, *Victor Momo has let the side down. (Where did you learn to sewar like that, Victor - certainly not in Stoke-on-Trent? ) *Your praise for The Boss in reply to winger's question was spoken like a true Boskamp Bummer. I'll save you a seat on the next trip to Bruxelles. OS.

Here is the link.... www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/mar/23/stoke-city-middlesbrough-premier-leagueBut to save time, here is a summary: Paragraph 1: Stoke fans are offensive and vulgar Paragraph 2: Ryan Shawcross is stupid Paragraph 3: Boro were superb bar one tiny slip Paragraph 4: Fuller is a cheat in a team of brutish yobs Paragraph 5: Boro were superb bar one tiny slip Paragraph 6: Stoke are a bunch of Philistines And this guy has the nerve to pretend he doesn't know what the fuss is about?
