Apparently we are being applauded for our endeavours over the Pond.. They Fellas on Fox Sport love the fact that we are getting stuck up the Old Guard that think they have a divine right to be there..
A mail from my cousin in St Louis..
'Some of the complaints are leaking through over here. One of the talk shows, Fox Football Fone-in features two Brits. They were berating the talk of "too big to go down". The comment about Newcastle was "Too big? Well they're not too GOOD to go down!" They sound like teams that look upon the Prem as an entitlement to be awarded and not a league to be earned. Stoke is being noticed for their grit and hard work and the way they take it to all comers. 'Stoke never quit no matter where they are. The fans are the 12th man.'
I love it! Tell the "pub club" cry babies to look at the 1863 on the Stoke shield and ask them how many pubs are that old. (We get the same stuff in baseball here, mostly from Yankee fans who think that they are the only team that deserves to be in the World Series.) Pub team, my arse! To hell with them all! Stoke is up and deserves to stay up! Let the other fans quit on their teams, just like their teams quit on the games. We still believe!'
Can't fault him really...

Those two pricks on Fox Football Fone In are jumping on the band wagon now after absolutely slating us all season. The Chelski loving one has had a pop at us at every opportunity, and the bald prick who won't admit to which team he supports has not been much kinder. With our last few results they have started to try and cover the fact that they have got it completely wrong about us since day one and they are turning their attention Newcastle now that it looks like they are in the shit. Yeah, it's great to see us getting some credit, but those two smug bastards have been right up there with Talk Sport in the Stoke-Bashing stakes for most of the season, so I really have no respect for anything that either of them say to be honest.

I dont like the yanks so it doesnt really bother me what they think. They are the equivelent in thisworld to Manure Fans in the football league. Most people hate them and they think they have sole right to be the best at everything.

The guys on Fox Sports World Canada haven't been too bad on the Stoke bashing front. The fat guy on The Score hates us with a passion and has annoyed me with his bilge from the away game at Liverpool. Daniele Dichio speaks highly of us when he's on TSN. Gave a good account of us a couple of weeks back against Villa. One of the guys said that Brazil played much better football and he stated that was simply not true. He argued in our favour that we played an old style game with a superb tempo and that we were very good at it which is why the likes of Arsenal, Villa have struggled with it. Sounds like he is the Canadian equivalent of Stan Collymore

It's good to know we're getting international recognition, apparently it's much the same in Spain where a lot of people have adopted us as their English club.
I think it goes to show that anyone impartial to English football clubs respects and admires what we are trying to do and how we are going about doing it, while the people who slag us off here are the ones who feel their club, or the established hierarchy of things is being threatened, with Newcastle fans being a prime example.

Its just a country i've always disliked, although i do appreciate a lot of things that have come from it. The Great Escape film really gets on my tits as it is a true story about a british prisoner of war camp, there were no americans what so ever which pisses me off when they make the main character american. Just one littl rant about americans. *deep breaths*

Garfield, I can tell you from experience that Americans in general do not feel they have a divine right to win anything at all. What they do have is a willingness to try and compete to the best of their ability and it is instilled in them to be VERY competitive, not only in sports but in everything they do. As a whole, they are determined, hard working people with an incredible desire to succeed and that is what makes them by and large such a fantastic nation when it comes to sports. In terms of football, or "soccer" as they will insist on calling it, they would almost certainly compete with the best in Europe if it was not for the fact that almost all of their best atheletes are pushed towards the more popular and lucrative sports such as throwball (I refuse to call it football, it's just not), basketball, baseball, hockey, or track and field events. The womens football team does not suffer to the same extent and for that reason they are amongst the worlds best.
As for the people in general, you are way off the mark with the stereotyping, and I would suggest your opinion might change if you spent any lngth of time over here as they are some of the most welcoming, friendly and good humoured people I have ever met.

Ihave met a few (tourists mostly and when i went to florida) and have liked them (mostly). The ones i dislike however i detest. The ammount of cockyness in some of them and the stupidity of others. Little sayings about WWII and The American Revolution which really get on my tits. They seem to know very little about what actually happened in these events and just chirp on about saving or kicking our "ass"

I try to discuss their ancestory with them and how they came to be a whiteman in a redskin/maori land and usually end up pointing out that at some point in time there ancestors were brave Englishmen who conquered the world. I then comment that we are quietly doing the same now it's just that they've not realised it yet It dunna work with the Aussie's as they are just criminals who got lucky!!

It's all good mate, I keep promising my neighbours I'm going down to Jamestown in the summer to reclaim my land..... the wife is American, but she's part Cherokee so I've told her I'll set up a tee pee in the back yard, that way were both happy. And a word of warning....if you ever have the pleasure of meeting a "southern" girl from the U.S.A, do not make the mistake of ever calleing her a Yank....... the first time I did it almost resulted in a smack in the chops!

Any country whose satellite TV service enables me to watch 90 minutes of virtually every Stoke game this season (many live and the rest later the same day) whilst living thousands of miles from the action is alright by me.
Fickle? Easily pleased? You bet. ;D

staying up for garfield is a tit! i doubt very much he's ever even met a ''YANK'' let alone been to America. Fcuking sh*t stain! The Americans are really nice people in general, shame we are always told we can't band all muslims together all the time yet it seems ok to band the americans together and nobody says anything????? Well i won't have it, and i always jump to their defence. The credit crunch, global warming, the nuclear arms race, world war2, vietnam (started by the french), and Zanzibar closing were not all the fault of the USA.
