Now then. Boro fan here, just thought i'd pop in. This post is in no way meant to be patronising or looking for bites etc, it is just how I feel so sorry if it comes out that way. Just noticed a lot of posts today criticising the boro support both home and away, going on about how the Brittania stadium is a "cauldron" and the best atmosphere in the league etc. This is simply because your city will be riding on the exciting wave that is the Premier League. We experienced it before in Bryan Robsons era, we used to pack the house out every week with a brilliant atmosphere for about 6-7 years straight, even when we got relegated and when we extended the stadium to 35,000 (there were even talks of it being extended to 42,000). This isn't because we have brilliant fans, we're no better or worse than anyone else, it is just because women, children and lads who previously wouldn't have been interested get hooked in by the Sky Sports, Premier League buzz. Inevitably people got bored as the football got worse and the product became stale, which has made our attendance go down rapidly in recent years. I don't normally get into these "our fans are better than yours" arguments but I just felt I had to defend my club. Say in a few years the Brittania stadium is still full and noisy every week then fair enough, but just be warned, people do get bored so enjoy it while it lasts. I have also read a lot of posts saying both the Boro players and fans will be intimidated by the Brittania stadiums atmosphere, which just isn't the case. A lot of the fans there will have been at the UEFA Cup 1/4 final game away in Rome, where we were attacked with axes and about 5 fans were stabbed... So I think we can handle a few chavs calling us nasty names. A lot of the players played in our two european cup runs and have been to hell-holes all over europe so they'll be fine as well. I'm glad you're enjoying your time in the Premier League, because it is great, but I just found a lot of the comments a bit disrespectful to the club and the fans, if i'm proven wrong after a few years then feel free to gloat and take the piss! Anyway, now i've had my rant I want to wish you luck for the rest of the season and I hope we both stay up as the league needs teams like Stoke. I'm not particularly confident about Saturday, partly as we have no center midfielders. Watch out for Julio Arca in the center of midfield, he actually is the worst footballer in the world. If Downings on form I suppose we've got a chance. I just hope we put up a bit of a fight, it should be a proper football match. Any decent away pubs?

you're already assuming we're going to take the exact same route as boro in the premiership
we could stay up and buy more players
get higher in the premiership and keep our support
you don't live in the city so you don't what its like.
we used to be a massive team and we've played in europe so it can happen again
thats the beauty of football
just a shame ugly teams like boro exist

If Downing can play for England so can i!! ;D look foward to hearing that satdee!.You do have a nice ground its just a shame there's more noise in my local library ok so you are an "established" prem club.....until may but does that give you the crap excuse you use for your silent fans?.i like steve gibson he and peter coates are probably 2 of the best chairmen in the league and he deserves better than what he has got back from southgate, any other chairman would have sacked him by now especially after the joke that is alfonso alves!.
bottom 3

"just a shame ugly teams like boro exist"
Yeah that UEFA cup final a few years ago was just gruesome. That Carling Cup win was just awful.
"we could stay up and buy more players
get higher in the premiership and keep our support"
We have finished 7th about 5 years ago (5 poitns off 4th) and have seen players such as Juninho, Emerson, Ravanelli, Boksic, JFH, Viduka, Mendieta, Zenden, Southgate, Boateng... I actually could go on. So you could do a lot worse than go the boro route in the Premier League.
"we used to be a massive team and we've played in europe so it can happen again"
Yeah you used to be.... not in my lifetime like.

I think he's right to say there's a danger of that happening to us in a few years, but there's nothing to say we'll follow the Premier League ''stagnation'' route that they have.
I always think it's funny that the posts beiginning with ''This post is in no way meant to be patronising or looking for bites etc'' are the most likely to be just that.

He makes some good points ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/vEIFeJPtIIq1awrUd6zP.gif) But players will underperform due to the crowd. Lampard's the only player to have a really good game down here

I don't get why Downing gets so much stick, he's actually a brilliant footballer.. but never mind. Yeah the riverside is quiet for most the games in the season, but its like that when all the smaller clubs (no offence intended) come up. It is like that across the county, I don't get why Boro get so much stick for it. When its bouncing though its 'kin bouncing. Yeah I like your chairman, I like that I didn't actually know his name until today, doesn't hog the limelight. Seems like a good guy whenever i've seen him interviewed... And don't get me started on Alves.

i think you make a number of good points and I think your Chairman is very good
I dont agree with every point you make, but if it helps I hope Toon end up below you. There is passion and there is just blind arrogance.
The fans who stay with Boro should be saluted as for the past few seasons, after the top years how sick are you of hearing 'it depends which Boro team turn up to day' which must be bloody frustrating when with a team of good players they sometimes simply dont turn up

To be honest he is probably right and in a few years we will (I hope not) become as quiet as the Everton Boro Bolton etc etc fans!
The one thing that has amazed me (in a negative way) is the lack of passion/ atmosphere at most grounds maybe the lack of genuine competition is at the heart of it?
But one thing he has wrong is that players won't be influenced! lampard Fabregas Cole etc have visibly crapped themselves at the Brit this year! Long may it continue

I would love that lot up the road to go down, just horrible people.
"'it depends which Boro team turn up to day' which must be bloody frustrating when with a team of good players they sometimes simply dont turn up"
It is very frustrating, but we have been like that for about 10 years now. We have too many players that just can't be arsed most the time and only bother turning up for the big games and that has just got to be put down to weak management. If we put in half the effort your players seem to have done this year we'd be doing fine, but no this is Boro we're talking about. I hope I am proven wrong about the atmosphere and I'm looking forward to experiencing it on Saturday, hopefully we'll be in good voice too. Any pubs/places I should avoid? I've heard things have been a bit tasty down your end this year and I can't be arsed with hassle to be honest, just want to get smashed with my mates and hopefully see a boro win, not come back with a black eye haha.

I don't really want to get into this discussion as its going to turn out to sound like i'm anti-Stoke, which i'm really not. But here we go anyway...
Name 10 players in the last 20 years or so that are world beaters? Have I missed something? I'm just saying you could do a lot worse than going down the Boro route seeing some of the best players in the world every week, winning the league cup, i've lost count how many semi-finals and finals we've been to, including a UEFA cup final. If you experienced all that in your time in the Premier League you'd go away happy. It's been pretty amazing to be honest.
"Please please please let Downing take a corner by the Boothen/Seddon as i want to see him piss his pants."
Haha Stewwie won't fancy that like. He's a bit of a fanny.

if the boro that beat liverpool, spurs (at home) then you don't stand a chance,
but if its the boro thats lost to the likes of west brom, sunderland, hull, fulham..etc then you will torture us.

Amazing to think they have somehow ended up in the bottom three ;D lol If you like looking at tables there is a table which proves we are currently in the bottom three but there is another which proves we are the loudest fans! Harvester right opp the ground good as loads of Police etc - most fans seem to mingle fine Apart from Pomey aint seen anything and they started that one, which was a mild scuffle in the end
Sadly as we are a fair way from the town there is not a lot else for away fans without assuming you may bump in to the odd silly/pissed person

I don't think you'll find one boro fan who would argue with that. We've scored the least amount of goals in Britain, even Elgin 'kin City have scored more than us. It's almost comical to think we have a 12m striker sat on his fat arse on the bench.
