It helped that Cannavaro was awesome.
I must have missed the sign on the Golden Ball which said "you must be THIS tall to win me".

Good goal but listening to radio commentry on 5 live that Alan Green bloke keeps talking Manure up. Biast views and saying how great Manure are.Talking Pompey down and saying its over already and wont be less than 4 and said the Lyon coach should not turn up and give Manure the points. 39 Minute he quotes "Is that the Pompey fans singing surely not" Arsehole

Ronaldo doesn't do it against the big boys full stop. Knockout CL he seems to vanish a bit every year, same against arsenal, Chelsea etc He is good and has the potential to be the best but he is definitely NOT the best in the world at the moment Have to agree, remember Manure Vs Milan last season Kaka pissed all over Ronaldo. Messi is better then both imo.

Does anybody remember when we played Arsenal in the cup and Reyes and Van Persie kept trying to dive, but Taggart pulled them up as they were falling? Our Gerry would sort him out no problem. ;D
I'll begrudgingly admit that Ronaldo is a good player. However, like Rooney, he can never become a great, in my opinion. Sir Stanley Matthews was a great - he had the attitude, work ethic and sportsmanship to go with his ability, which made him the best footballer there has ever been. Sportsmanship is not a word that immediately comes to mind with either of them, although I'll happily extol their virtues if they clean their game up. Little chance of that while at ManUre though, cheating and haranguing referees is still all the rage there. I'll probably be much more able to admit something about his ability when he finally leaves the shit, too.
He wears blusher just to annoy me, I swear.

If that's your criteria though MD, who qualifies as "a true great" in the modern game?

Ronaldo is a supremely gifted footballer. It's a pity he is such a prat. If only he wasn't such a diving cheating bollocks who thinks he is god's gift to women despite having a neck like a giraffe on anabolic throat steroids...

Gary Lineker was my hero as a kid and one of the greatest strikers this country has produced. When all's said and done though, he was more of a poacher - he didn't have the skills of a Rooney or Ronaldo, and certainly not of a Maradona, who I think is the best player ever, in spite of him being a cheating crack-addled whoremonger.

Bergkamp and Zidane wouldn't be classed as modern greats by MD's criteria though, because they weren't saints on the pitch.
I agree with you about both though. As I've said, I think Maradona was the greatest in spite of his fatcuntery.

I think we can say he is ONE of the best players in the world. There's not a lot to split Kaka, Messi and Ronaldo IMHO.
As the shit fans sing.. that boy Ronaldo, he made England look shite.
