Yes,yes another Delap thread. How on earth does he warrant a place in the team of late he's got nothing in his game other than his throw which 9/10 comes to nothing. Yesterday his throws were nothing short of desperation by Pulis against the likes of Lescot and Yobo. After looking at Delap closely yesterday his game is awful,no pace,no fight,no idea what to do whenever he receives the ball. We can ill afford to carry anyone at the moment and by trying to put a square peg in a round hole on the left hand side is frightening.

I agree he was God awful yesterday but as I and quite a few others have said lets see him in his true position first before writing him off. He should be given a go in centre mid as Diao is in shocking form. Rory's as much a left winger as Cress is.

agree 100% should think himself lucky if he was warming the bench. too many games where this man is anonymous(sp) apart from when he picks the ball up with his hands you would'nt know he was on the pitch. no doubt there will be loads saying you don't see his hidden qualities, his back tracking, his vital tackling, well its utter bollox. this man is crap.

Did you watch him play centre mid during the latter half of last season? He was our best player during the last 20 or so games.

I'm afraid it's a hell lot faster in the Premiership and Rory hasn't got the legs to compete in the centre.

Is this the same Lescott and Yobo that we are talking about that looked like chickens on ice earlier in the season at the Britannia when faced with Rory's throw. It is a weapon that we have got, and still should be used.

so how can he move to centre mid ? whelan has hit a good run of form, and apart from diao, lil faye is the only other midfielder who can tackle. don't get me wrong, i also think diao is utter wank aswell.
pulis is accomadating delap.

Diao 100% agree,Amdy not so sure on that one TBH either way we can't keep playing him if we are serious about the reamaining games.

you can throw all the stats you like about assists off throws. there's something seriously wrong if you were happy with his performance yesterday.
i can see i'm onto a loser on this thread, but i will never be convinced this man is any good at football.
at least creswell looked like he was trying.

At the end of the day Etherington gives us a better balance on the left hand side and he shouldn't make way for Delap. On paper we were always going to lose at Everton yesterday so why not have a go from the off with your best starting eleven which includes Fuller ahead of Sidebe..

What we want to see is Rory Delap, central midfielder, playing in.....wait for it.....central midfield.

There are a lot of people on this messageboard who equate:
'not very effective against a decent team and probably face to face with better players, who unsurprisingly made him look poor' with
'crap'
Rory is an essential part of what's got us to this stage, he works his nuts off, throws it in the box really well, (as has been noted ;D)and actually gets forward more than most of our midfielders. But he has a poorish game against a top 6 team and that makes him crap etc etc
I fully expect Boro to be worried by his throws, and our set pieces in general - they would be delighted if he's dropped.

Delap has been more than useful already this season, and it may well be easy to remember that he was awesome at the end of last season too.
Etherington should be starting every time on the left providing he's almost match fit if not quite there. Whelan mid with EITHER delap or faye as defensive mid, lawrence on left. Midfield sorted....

Our postage stamp sized pitch has been the only reason for selecting Rory in my opinion. I am sorry but he is not as good acentral midfielder as Amdy Faye. Faye and Whelan are definitely our best central pairing. He does lack pace and gives away dodgy free kicks. It also unbalances the side to have him in one of the wide positions.

I can't be bothered read every post above, but I am a massive fan of Delap & would love to see him in the centre of midfield.
Now modifying the after deciding to read above and I can't honestly believe the rubbish some people write! Do people have short term memories? Ok I must admit there has been games where I would of rested him away from home, but that said it wouldn't of been many. Rory has already played a vital part this season for us this season and that is playing out of position. He reads the game very well and where he lacks with his legs (pace), he more than makes up for in his head. All season I have been saying mix the throws, but he is only doing what he told to do, throw them in long. Overall without a shadow of doubt Rory has been our best and most consistant midfielder of the season.
