They said recently that Phil Jagielka had an unsuccessful trial at Stoke aged sixteen. I don't think that's right. Phil Jageilka came right through the Sheffield United Academy into their first team. His brother Steve played for us at reserve level for a few seasons.

Mohammed Gargo failed to gain a work permit (I think). He ended up having a decent career in Serie A.

Didn't we turn Emerson Thome down after a trial and he went to play for Chelsea amongst others?

Yes, Emerson Thome was definitely turned down.
In fairness, i don't think we are alone in missing the odd gem.

The decision not to sign Emerson Thom was entirley Moxey's Kamara wanted to spend £300k on him (to be fair to Moxey Kamara wanted to sign every player in th world it seems liek Barry Fry on acid).
Moxey as C/E Kammy as manager how dit it all go wrong?

Mills did go ou to Holland summer 85 but cant remember which player (Gullit,Van Basten,Koemans, some later on superstar) we didnt sign despite MM's recomendation for the simple reason we had £0.00 to spend.

Karel Poborsky- Chic Bates spotted him and we could have got him for around 300k apparently.
Andy Cole, Steve Stone and Clive Mendonca. Won't mention who let them deals fall apart as Pugsley will tell me off. :-)

We were supposed to take three irish lads on trial, only two of them turned up (Clarke and O'Connor) both of whom were signed however the third didn't and we never bothered chasing it up - wonder whatever happened to Robbie Keane

Are you sure about Robbie? I thought John Devine took Clarke and O'Connor to Stoke. They did all play in the same youth teams under Brian Kerr etc but Keane was originally to go to Liverpool but chose Wolves instead as he reckoned he'd have more of a look in there despite being a 'Pool fan.
Never heard that story before-was superb at Wolves
