Bullard made it clear - going by the months of paper talk - that he wanted to double his £25k a week wages
he actually hasnt played for a few weeks either
Hodgeson has been reported as being keen to offload rather than pay the wages.
I cant see how Stoke could pay any player that kind of money at the moment
The fact that bigger clubs havnt come in for Bullard suggests that maybe he isnt right at that top level.
good player who we all would have enjoyed watching in a Stoke shirt but numbers dont add up.
If we do end up signing Ledley for over £6m then the comparison will be made but Ledley's wages we can afford & he has his career ahead of him
Ledley we could presume would at least retain a decent resale value in a year or two Bullard will be hard to shift on £50k a week
if it comes off for Hull - i.e. he is instrumental in keeping them in the prem for the duration of his contract - & the other Hull players dont get the hump (assuming Hull arnt paying the others £50k a week or even half) then its a good call.
I think Hodgeson has called it right myself

Bullard is a decent player but very, very overated hes like a media darling equivalent to Harry Redknapp. Bullards play is beautiful on the eye deep in his own half but apart from the odd free kick what does he do in the oppositions? Add to that hes 30 and has a dodgy knee.Hes not for me. Have a look at his stats for the season. 5 million your havuin a laugh Come off it! For clubs like ours, signing someone like Bullard is an amazing coup. All signings are a risk, but if he keeps us up, it will look like peanuts. I'd love to have read your comments if he'd have signed for Stoke

i agree with Sutton tiger hes a fantstic signing if Capello thinks he is one of Englands best he would have done for me as ive said all along our Judgement will be in May but to be fair i think this is the best signing of the window by any of the clubs possibly involved at the bottom

Bullard is a great signing for Hull but the ( alledged ) 40 k a week wages does seem very steep. If they stay up then it will have been a good move but if they go down it could be a very costly gamble.
I agree with sutton tiger though .If we'd signed him then there would have been some excited stokies on here, myself included. He's a very good footballer and capable of keeping a team in this league.

I had Hull to go down last week, but now think they have a much better chance of surviving. Bullard isnt wearing a Stoke shirt because someone else has been earmarked for it - will the magical mystery signing please step forward.

£5 million fee, Four and a half year deal at around £40k a week, lots of money!!!! Would 've liked to have seen him in a Stoke shirt myself, but definitely not at those levels of money.
Still a good signing for Hull, if he helps keep them up and then helps attract "better quality" players to their club.
Also Phil Brown has another Media favourite at the club to help keep himself in the limelight, what a media whore that man is by the way.
Dont think Tone would have been keen to sign him on these wages, and with all the additional media attention Bullard gets, not our Tone's style really.

I think a big reason we haven't been more aggressive in our attempts to sign him is that TP probably views him as having got "too big for his boots" and signed up as a member of the "Soccer AM generation" ... and we know that TP hates Lawrence's assocciation with the show, and to be fair I don't blame him.

In terms of his quality there's no doubt this guy would be a welcome addition to our side. But his age, and subsequent lack of resale value, his relatively high valuation (for a midfielder over 30), and his wage demands means that it wouldn't make great business sense to us. That said, if he's signed as a short-term fix and succeeds in helping them stay up then he will have been worth every penny.

Totally agree with that you need quality in this league and at 5 million, as much as I hate to say it, have a player who will be the difference in surviving and going down. Our midfield would be fantasic with Bullard and little Faye sitting behind him. Think TP has reallly missed one here, willing to spend 6 million on Ledley, who hasnt even played in the Prem and not trying to hijack a move for one of the best players in this league despite his wages

We're desperate to get someone in the middle capable of getting on the ball, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and giving us some quality from the middle. Bullard is a good player, clearly, and he had a massive influence in keeping Fulham last year. But his age, injury problems and the reasoning for which he entertained the idea of joining Hull City are precisely why I am glad we haven't got him.

'Next up, another England international in Micah Richards? By CI Reporter - 23/01/2009 20:26 With the sensational capture of England squad member Jimmy Bullard already completed for £5m, are City set to land another international before the transfer window closes on February 2nd? Within in hours of Hull City making the record transfer buy with midfield sensation Jimmy Bullard from Fulham for £5m, City Independent believe a second major England international could be heading to the Tigers before the window shuts. Bullard will formally be unveiled in a 12pm press conference before the Millwall FA Cup 4th round home tie - and then introduced to the fans at 2.45pm on the pitch - ahead of the cup match taking place. However, word reaching City Independent deems, Phil Brown is allegedly attempting to sign another England international before the window closes, to bolster a defence that has been leaking goals in recent weeks. At this stage, without any confirmed media reports, sources close to City Independent believe, out of favour Manchester City right back Micah Richards could well be the man that the City boss could turns to, in an effort to address the current defensive issues. Meanwhile, at the head of the field one name being linked with City in the press has been Nacho Novo. However, the Ibrox striker appears to have ruled out a move away from Glasgow Rangers with his latest comments published on the Gers' official website. Novo claims - "There's been a few things written in the papers recently but I don't know about that, I just want to play here and help the club win things. Every day there is something written about our players but this does not affect anything, we just go out and enjoy training every day." That said, one target still beleived to be under consideration and in the running for potential move to the Tigers is £4m rated Malaga forward Antonio Apono playing in Spain's La Liga, after he was watched by City scouts at the weekend'

What i will say though is i think now we are starting to bring in players with a view to change our style . Bullard will do well for Hull no question.

Micah Richards is a good prospect. I'm not sure why he'd entertain the idea of joining yourselves as one would imagine there would be a host of clubs chasing him.
Re; Bullard, do not get me wrong, he is a quality player and someone of his ilk in the middle would suit me fine. However, playing at the circle every other week wasn't his motivation for joining Hull City. To be quite honest, I'm disappointed in Bullard on a few levels. He's always represented footballer's positively and showed that personalities like himself do remain in the game despite the greed that surrounds him.
Not anymore, it would seem.

Lets face it hes a damn good player. The only reservation is the wages over a long time period. If they get relegated and dont get back up it will cripple them or they will have to sell, and what would he fetch? next to fuck all? If they stay up for a year or two it will have paid off. A calculated gamble and time will tell if its paid off. He may well get crocked in his first season given he missed over 50 games for Fulham out of 80 odd. A younger , fitter version is what we need, which perhaps is why Ledley is at the front of TPs thinking.

My take on this is hes a good player, but he alone wont keep a club up,Fulham came mighty close to the drop with bullard in the side. Hell be a big fish in a small pond at hull and IF he stays injury free for the rest of the season he will be a big help to them. If Hull drop this year he will have a get out clause which based on his wage both he and hull will probably use

when you consider Tonge and Oli will have cost £5 million, and for their combined wages, there will be not much change out of 40 grand a week. I'd go for the Bullard option any day...quality player as for Stokies saying Bullard plays too deep ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/7TTgAtwUz19SBi0cvrCX.gif) .......unbelievable after watching our midfield camped on the edge of their own penalty area for most of the season.
