With the lads being out in Dubai, I just wondered what people's views were about a rich Sheik or two wining and dining Uncle Peter and getting involved in the club.
Quite topical at the moment with Man City etc.
I know its not very likely that stoke would be a target but it would be interesting to get people's opinions
I'm not pro such a thing because at least we have local ownership now and a reasonable amount of money ,certainly by our recent standards, however I do worry about the future should anything happened to Uncle Peter

We've got more chance of a Sheesh kebab investing in Stoke than we have a Shiek.

NO. I like us wheeling and dealing in the transfer market trying to put together a team on a budget that enables us to compete and beat the Big spenders & 'name' buyers, finding little gems here & there for quality prices (i.e Faye and Sorenson) gives me more satisfaction when we get a result, i love us being the grafting, determined underdog in the with the 'Big Boys' with a bit of quality thrown in here and there. IMHO - I would most probably lose interest if we became moneybags capable of buying results on the feild, wheres the enjoyment in that?

NO Loose your club forever to someone who doesnt really care.
NO THANKS, for all his previous faults and ups and downs Coates is from Stoke and he wants us to be great too. might not have zillions but SCFC is much more than that to me and always will be.
GENUINELY RATHER BE BACK IN THE CCC than in that heartless rat race.

No. Like Andy I would rather be back in CCC than be sucked into that scenario. Keep Stoke in the hands of those who Love the Club.

Most definitely not. In Man City's case, it'll be the same old story. The Arabs will soon get bored and it will all turn to shit again for them. It always does...

I genuinely think the guys at Citeh will get fed up with the club in 5 years time and fuck off. Now if that happens Citeh are up shit creek with a team full of players on inflated wages and the club could go under.
At the moment our club is being run brilliantly and i couldnt be happier

If we're gonna be a rich man's hobby, then I'd rather it was a man with Stoke in his blood and who actually knows how football works. PC has these qualities, as well as having influence with the FA. He might never be as rich as an oil billionaire and, as a consequence, our club will never break into the top four on spending power, but at least we can hold our heads up for supporting a 'proper football club' that is tidy and well-run. All Man City's money has done so far has brought them ridicule and contempt since it's quite clear that the new owners don't have a clue about how football works.

I wonder what Hughes role in this has been.
Sheikh: We're looking for a manager that will do what we want him to do. Hughes: That'd be me. S: OK .. go buy Kaka for 100 million. H: Huh? .... We could buy abc, def, & xyz for that amount and that would give us better options and probably a better team spirit. S: Do as you're told ..... or do I need a new manager? H: We're buying Kaka for 100 million.
To be brutally honest, I would be disgusted if Stoke pulled that trick. The current world record is 36 million ... (Held by Man City) ... so let's offer 3 times that amount? No player is worth that!

A big big no. I never thought I'd say this a few years ago but we have one of the best chairmen in the country, a Stokie and a proper football man, the ownership of stadium and training ground are sorted, if we're not selling out every home game we're very close to it - I've got the odd gripe with Scholes but basically this is exactly how a football club should be run and long may it continue.

I'd rather have people running the club that want 'it' (almost) as much as we do.
That goes for chairman, manager and players.

To be fair, the one season Real Madrid had all their superstars performing after their own bender of buying all the worlds best players, they really were a force to be reckoned with. They just couldn't get a manager who could get the team playing and then it fell apart.

In the current situation football is in, even if we spent the next 10 - 20 years building, getting better and better to the point where we reach a Tottenham, Portsmouth etc like position (ie a team who's initial aims for a season are to make the UEFA cup) one bad season could ruin it all, and without a millionaire on a grander scale than Coates we will never be close to making a challenge for the premiership title. To be capable of challenging in the near future I'd say a team needs at least about 300m in terms of investment in playing staff, infrastructure (to help get players in) and all the other necessities such as agent fees and the sorts. This is before the cost of the wage bill, stadium maintenance and all the other overheads and costs a club incurs are taken into account.
