There are obviously far more shocking things on there than the Princess Diana car accident image. I think what makes it so bad is that you never really realise the image of somebody lying there dead after a crash. You read it and hear about it and you just think of death as word, rather than an image. It's obviously something that happens every single day and I can't imagine how anybody would feel when coming across such incidents.

Nothing to say about that story really apart from WOW. There really is some crazy shit that goes on in this world and it puts all sorts of things into perspective and makes you realise just what's important and what's isn't. NOW .... have we signed fuckin' Beattie or what?

Itt's interesting as well because like an earlier post says with the explanations it gives a better understanding of the photos that I saw when I was younger. Love the pic of the workers sitting along the girder on the 69th! level having their snapping and reading.

This will probably be an unpopular response BUT .......
Regarding the picture of the vulture and the child, all these cries of "Horrific", "Haunting" and so on are nothing but attempts to placate yourselves. Do you realize that the average cost for you to go watch ONE GAME in the premiership could feed a child like this for almost a year?!?!? SCFC could feed 105,205 children for a year if they made do with our current strikers and gave 6 million pounds to the WFP School Feeding Programme instead of buying Beattie. Which one of us would be happy to do this? And until we do stand up and do something, threads with photos like this are simply exercises in morbid curiosity. No matter how much you are horrified or saddened, it doesn't help kids like the one in the photo one little bit!
Regarding the photos of various atrocities committed by various people/governments ...... they are all terrible and two wrongs never make a right, but 115,000 innocent people will be killed TODAY. The people doing the killing will be paid about $372 a head and this will be repeated every day for the forseeable future. And we just shrug our shoulders and pretend it is acceptable. I am talking of course about babies being killed in the place they should be safest - the womb. Until we are prepared to stop atrocities happening in our own backyard, we have no right to point our fingers at others.
The real horror of the stories behind the pictures is not the relatively few evil people who commit the attrocities but the millions of "good" people who did nothing to help.

What do you expct us to do? See a photo like that, immediately hand in our resignation and get the next plane out there?

Do'nt need to placate myself as i cannot do anything about these photo's as they are in the past what I can do is do my bit now for certain charities/people/children etc which I do. The thread has also educated/informed me on a hell of a lot that I did not know and if that pushes me or other people to be more aware of the suffering and contribute more in some way towards putting an end to it is that not a good thing? Unpopular or not I see where you are coming from though. And for the record I was serously disturbed with the vulture and child pic.

Trumpton,
Firstly, I am not accusing anyone of anything. I am merely pointing out that until each and every one of us is prepared to make some sacrifices (in the case of the starving child) we can wring our hands as much as we like but things are not going to change. It would be absolutely foolish for everyone to throw in their jobs and end up just like those we are trying to help. But if we all evaluated what sacrifice we are prepared to make, (one less beer per game day would feed a kid for a year and a half), we could genuinely claim to be part of the solution rather than just bleeding heart bystanders.

Fair play and if you'd said that i would have taken it a lot better. Your 1st post sounded a lot more condescending though. You kind of criticised people for saying the pictures were horrific, harrowing etc but they would do nothing. I prefer to think that being horrified by pictures like that will make more people do the "few little things" that you mentioned that can make such a big difference.

Agreed Trumpton. I also hope that being horrified will move people to act. Unfortunately, history shows that most will continue to simply be bystanders and tomorrow another 115,000 babies will be killed while another 13,700 people will starve to death. Now if you and I could take action to remove just 1 out of each of those numbers .........

we shouldnt feel the guilty for the horror in some of those photos, but there are people in the world who should be made accountable.
in the case of the attacks on falluja - why hasn't bush been arrested on war crime charges yet?
in the case of the girl in the window - where was the support for a mentally disabled mother of 3, who clearly had/has no idea what she was doing
whats most disturbing to me is that most of the images depict tragedies that were man-made and often simply in the pursuit of power and profit! normal working class stokies shouldn't feel guilty for not 'sacrificing' when so many people have died horrifically by the hands of governments and businesses home and abroad
the only people who should feel guilty are the people responsible

Whoosh.....
No one has anything to feel guilty about, but unless each and everyone of us DOES something other than wringing their hands, then don't expect anything to change. I guess it's OK that another 115,000 babies will be killed and 13,700 people will starve to death today .... as long as nobody expects me to do anything other than look at a few photos on a web site.
