Hi all! I've had problems getting a job over the summer, as I'm a qualified teacher, and it's the summer holidays. However, my luck changed very quickly last week. After a recommendation from a friend, I posted my CV on this TEFL community website. Within 24 hours, I had ten e-mails from various agencies across the world, desperate for intelligent and responsible, native English speakers. One such e-mail, offered me a specific job in China, that I'm due to fly out to start on Friday. In this instance, my flights were paid for, after I told them that I couldn't afford airfare myself. I also get an apartment and a formal teaching contract for a year. On top of that, given the fact that I have a PGCE, I was offered £1000 p/m disposable income. Although I don't have a TEFL qualification, they are paying me to complete one, in a few days upon arrival. It's not all perfect, however, as you need a decent degree (2.1 and above!), you may have to live a bit of a nomadic lifestyle and not all jobs offer accommodation and flight expenses additionally. However, if you're looking to get into some form of teaching, it's invaluable experience and it offers a fairly straightforward route into it. Even if you don't want to get into teaching, it gives you an excuse to travel and if you are committed, you could make a toss load of money! Word of warning: Check all agencies and countries out before signing any contract or flying out, to ensure that they are legit. The website is: www.eslcafe.comPost your resume and see what happens! ;D EDIT: Oh and if you need any advice or help give me a PM!

Nice one SWS...I also have a PGCE, just wondered if it was a subject specific PGEC need? Mines in Secondary Technology.

Not sure tbh HLF! My degree was History based and the job was teaching English as a foreign language, so I could easily use my degree to highlight my proficiencies in English language (particularly written). If you have a PGCE, however, you know how to teach. Combined with your status as a native English speaker, you would be fine I think.
Also, there are jobs other than English teaching on there. My PGCE was specifically to teach at colleges but the job is for teaching 4-12 year olds. If you've got secondary experience, they should snap your hand off!
It's all about selling your experience, skills and desire. Fill out the CV on the website and see what happens would be my advice. You can just pick from whatever is offered to you then. Also, you only get the employers that are genuinely interested, though you have to filter them, to find the legit, decent ones.
If you get a job, I'll be based in Weihai, China. Give me a buzz, if you need anymore help, or if you land a job in that part of the world.

Hi I work for a company called Synapse that has apprenticeship opportunities in our newly opened office in Burslem. We are looking for apprentices from the 16-18 yr old age group. We have a modern learning environment within our own call centre operation and offer the opportunity for the apprentice to gain a nationally recognized NVQ qualification in customer services. NVQ's offered - Level 2 and for those showing the right potential and commitment a level 3. Apprentices will have the opportunities to progress to trainee team leaders. If you know anyone that falls in this age group and would be interested in finding out more about the great opportunities available please visit www.synapselearning.co.uk to register interest or PM me and I will get back to you.
