Bit controversial this but am I the only one who has doubts about us showing interest in GT for any longer than the end of this season.
Don't get me wrong the guy has been tops and been a tremendous, steadying influence on the side but I just feel that maybe next season, and certainly the season after, would be one too many for the guy.
Should we be concentrating on finding a "Taggart" with a few more years left ??? ??? ???

A few more years left is a few less experience.
I think we get him on a 1-2 year contract, he should be happy with that.
I think we still need him, he still has a few years left looking at him.

Think he'd be OK for another year but his attitude's very non-commital - which is fair enough, but if Leicester were to come back down, think he'd want to stay there. And they'd want him too probably?

I like the look of Hill Rex. In much the same rugged mode as Taggart too. Just need him to stay/get fit again now and back to the form he showed for Tranmere where I thought he was excellent. I'm sure then he'd be a good 'un.

Aston - not too worried about his commitment for the cup game. As he said himself, things change. He certainly doesn't lack commitment in his play but at times he seems to me to labour and flag a little. Just feel that time is not on his side but would love to be wrong.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Williams (if anything)
I'd of thought that he will be a big factor (not literally ;D) in what happens with Taggart.

I think Hill is a more major factor coz he's the member of the squad who is good enough to replace him when he's fully fit after the way he was forced back to playing far too soon last year. He's only young so the sky's his limit, I just hope he proves it. Williams is getting past it anyway so he can't be a long-term solution.

I was thinking more short term, to see if we can sign taggart till the end of the season and possibly next season.

I think we can safely assume that Taggart would not be interested in signing anything with us if it was for this season only - he can sit out his contract at Leicester and see what awaits in the summer.
If we were to offer him this season and NEXT season as well, then he might be interested? We just have to weigh up whether it's worth it to us to take a risk, on the kind of money we'd need to spend, to get Gerry in on a longer term deal!?

With the players we've got to play at centre-back I doubt it would prove financially viable to sign Taggart long-term. What would the point of having players like Hill and kids like Owen if we do get him?

With a young squad as it is I think it's vital that we have experienced older heads in key areas to compliment the rest of the current team. A Crossley / De Goey in goal (TP seems to like his experienced, proven goalkeepers) and a Taggart figure in defence is a starter. Taggart, for me, would be worth having well into next season, especially if we have an established back four of Halls, Thomas and Hall (for example) around him - all younger, faster players to make up for GT's lack of pace, but also players who themselves should be helped by having the older head amongst them to learn from - ie: nobody is carrying anyone else in that mix, just a good blend of defenders. Shame we still haven't managed to get a similar quality Gleghorn / Bracewell / McCall to go alongside Eustace in midfield (although that said a younger paring of Damien Francis / John Eustace would've been just as mouth watering this season ) Incidently, speaking the a Forest fan elsewhere this afternoon about what impression (or not, in this case) that Brynjar Gunnarsson has made since signing for them... oh dear, oh dear!
