I've had a moan about the reduced noise levels in the last 4 home games, but having 'experienced' the pre-match build up at The Brit yesterday, I can see why.
Quite simply, the dross that is played pre-match (at ear-splitting levels) makes it impossible to get any sort of pre-game atmosphere going.
Insread of the cauldron of hate we need to give our team the edge against other teams, we have the likes of the Birdie Song etc played at Motorhead decibels from 2.30pm onwards.
The likes of Fulham would brick it to 25k Stokies in full flight when they come out, yet we act all Premier-big-time on the tannoy and play nonsensical dirge that simply makes even thinking to yourself an Olympic event.
Pre-match music adds NOWT to a game of football. I took my 5 year old yesterday wanting him to experience a proper football atmosphere and yet we had 30 minutes of stuff that woldn't even get a kiddies party at Cheeky Chimps going.
We are famed for our vocals, yet teams start the game against us in a relaxed state and with a crowd with ears resembling standing next to the bass bins at a Public Enemy gig!
Small gripe, yes, but we have to make the Brit uncomfortable and a horrible place to play. I know we have to play that Premiership song, but I'd lose all other music (even 'We'll be with you', as half the crowd dunna know how to sing it properly anyway!) and let us get the stadium rocking.

I tried my best to add that fear factor by haveing a pitchside ruckus with Pottermus for 30 seconds or so at around 2.45. He is stronger than you think!!!!

This wouldn't happen to be that Eminem tune that plays over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over for 10 minutes would it?

that's 1/2 time that Eminem dirge.
We are the last group of supporters in the country who needs musical accompaniement (sp). It really does make us as giddy and small-time as the likes of Boro, with their Pigbag stupidity.

The reception Mama got going off was brilliant. But re-watching bits of the game on football first it seemed pretty much silent apart from Pantsil's booes

I'm getting plenty mate, although the missus looks a bit bleary-eyed <smiley>.
Little lad is sleeping, er, like a baby (that sleeps a lot). Fed him at the end of MOTD and then he woke at 4.30pm - 5 hours I'd take every time.
The other two I took to the game for the first time in a year yesterday - perhaps I should be reported to the NSPCC?

Maybe the idea was to make sure the fans don't sing themselves out before the game starts? But I agree with you- You want to get behind the team, and you just cannot!
The eminem thing is OK- but only start it when the teams are ACTUALLY coming out, and now so bleeding loud!

We all say this, but would anyone sing anyway?
The atmosphere for the last 5 home games since Arsenal has been very poor indeed.

We're not the only team who uses music to enter to and that, loads of teams have songs they come on to, and a lot have shit like Fratellis on after a goal too

I don't maind really what is played but it need to be played as background music FFS. If you can't have a chat wth the person next to you before the game then it's TOO LOUD.
Infact, who do I email about it?

Rocking all over the world should be played in full, that gets the fans going a bit, and then that eminem tune is quite good, but not for the length of time it is played at though. They should just play the chorous of we'll be with you so everyone joins in and sings it properly. The volume though is absurd. Are they trying to break this new system or something? The eminem tune is played at a really loud, tinny level, and then they add super bass for the rest of the stuff. It would sound much better with about 30 seconds of the eminem stuff at half the volume but with loads more bass and then basically mute it for the away teams and blast it out for the stoke team.

I was in an a Executive box for the day and when the doors closed u cant hear much but when the door opened for us to go to our seats around 2:50pm, the noise that greeted us was really loud with music. the first few games u cudnt hear much from the tannoy system but now its way to loud . . How can u build up an atmosphere with music that loud in ur ears.

It pisses me off when they play "We'll Be With You", the crowd start to get going with it, then they (very) abruptly change the music and it kills it flat. Thats why it goes quiet, whoever sorts this out needs a swift kick in the groin, let a DJ who's a proper Stokie have a go!

Agree completely Bunny.
Complained about it myself to the guy next to me yesterday he replied "yer what..........can't hear yer" ;D
Joking apart its not what we are about is it? its beginning to piss me off big style, we need to get the atmos going our sens while everyone is still standing.

Unfortunately, Premier League rules mean that we have to play that awful generic indie song for a couple of minutes after the players come out.
The problem was not that it was too quiet, but that the actual announcements were unintelligible. THe music was just as loud but was blurry, while you couldn't hear the line ups and if there was a fire there could have been all hell up.
I'd rather we didn't sing along to piped music. That would make us as bad as Wigan, Middlesbrough and ManUre.

Imagine going away from home and the opposition played the whole of a Status F****** Quo song - we'd be absolutely wetting our pants.
I fear for anyone who needs 'Rocking all over the world' to get them going at a football match.
