Phil Brown has hinted he may implement a tactic to try and beat the Potters at their own game when the two sides clash at the Britannia Stadium tomorrow.
The Hull City boss remains tight lipped on who the mystery player is, who he describes as having a longer throw in than Rory Delap, but admits he would be happy to see it come up trumps tomorrow.
"At the end of the day, throw ins are a part of the game," he says. Article continues Advertisement
"If I threw a challenge down to Tony Pulis, I think we've got somebody in our camp that has got a longer throw (than Delap) but we choose not to use it.
"Whether that's ineptitude on my part remains to be seen, but it would be nice to score from a long throw on Saturday, wouldn't it?"
The clash marks the first ever game between the two sides at the highest level, and Brown has hinted he may make several changes to his side, after picking up just two points from the previous five games.
"It (the team) might need shaking up," he said.
"We're going into a game against Stoke and we're certainly going to come up against a tactic we're not used to.
"Our team might be a little bit taller, a little bit stronger and a little bit more powerful. Then again, it might be exactly the same."
While the former Bolton Assistant Manager does sound like he is trying to play mind games, he does admit he holds Tony Pulis in extremely high regard.
"Tony Pulis is a lot cleverer than people give him credit for. He is a Premier League manager on merit.
"They got promoted last year on merit and they didn't just play the long ball or rely on throw ins.
"I don't think the criticism they have had for their tactics this season has been fair. There is a siege mentality at Stoke. They have won five out of seven at home and that is why they are where they are in the table.
"The first goal will be the key to the game on Saturday. Stoke have conceded the first goal on seven occasions this season and lost all seven games.
"However, when they've scored first on five occasions, they've won all five."

Phil Brown loves the mind games, these are probably more blatant than his comments at the end of last season about the pressure being on us and they are just going out to enjoy themselves (and they lost). Hull haven't got a big squad, their reserves get caned every week... let's hope they "shake it (the team)" up alot.
