There was in an incident during the Peterborough v. Brentford game on Saturday when a Brentford player was sent off for bringing a Peterborough player down in the penalty despite the fact that there were two other Brentford players around the incident and one in between the Peterborough player and the goal.
If that referee interpreted this incident as a "clear goalscoring opportunity", then what the fuck was Kris Commons's on Saturday? Dispossed the full back, bearing down on goal, no way the centre half was going to catch him and then rugby-tackled to the ground. What, so it's no "clear goalscoring opportunity" if the attacker is outside the penalty area?
It's all about consistency, and the only consistent thing about referees these days is that they're consistently wank.

Totally baffled me that one. There was an incident minutes before when he couldn't wait to produce a yellow for a simple trip. The Commons one warranted a red card. Blatant foul with no attempt to play the ball.
Total lack of consistency.

Quite right you two... if rugby tackling a player when he's bearing down on goal isn't worth a red card then we may as well scrap them altogether.
You look at what Stoke players were booked and sent off for and what Wimbledon got away with and there's arguing against the fact that we got the short end of the stick from the referee and his assistants on Saturday.
All you ask for is consistency and they fail to deliver time and time again.

Just seen the Johnson inceident and it is my belief that if the club appeal then it will be rescinded
nothing else to say really for fear of being ridiculed.
will just wait and see what happens I suppose

Rex, While I agree that adding x number of extra refs on the field will add nothing, there is no way you can claim to be right in saying the current situation is best. Stupid reffing decisions/mistakes can affect the outcome of multi million pound businesses. Let's say that because of Eustace missing Walsall we lose the game, players get disheartened and we end up 4 points shy of the playoffs ..... How much will that decision have cost Stoke? The answer is to better equip refs to handle the modern game. Give the 4th official a video monitor and let him be consulted on important decisions (like Rugby). Give the video ref the ability to call certain offences (violent conduct, penalties, sending offs) to the refs attention. Let the game be reviewed afterward by a panel to rescind yellows or reds if warranted. I still think the "Sin Bin" idea is worth investigating. If a player gets a yellow card send him off for 15 minutes and don't accumulate cards for a later suspension. 2 yellows and you're off for good and then auto 3 game suspension. I bet that would cut down on a lot of the stupidity from players. There are many things that could be done and if I can think of these in just a few minutes, I am sure a brain trust of experienced refs, players, managers, administrators and (horror) fans could resolve the problem before it ruins the game completely ... Oh wait ... too late for that! (besides, what would Sir Alex blame Manure's next defeat on?)

And there's more... Has anyone seen what Dennis Wise got away with on Saturday? Jason McAteer isn't too impressed, and having just watched one incident involving Wise on Sky Sports News, I can't say I blame him. skysports.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=182046
