Mick, based on that interview, I think TP will bring in players in January. He refused to be drawn on the issue which is exactly the way he should be playing it. Why should he speculate in public about his plans when we'll know soon enough? If he had kept his thoughts to himself a few more times in the past few years he would have not had half the grief he got.
As they said in the war "careless talk costs lives". That over dramatises the situation but the principle is clear.

Sorry, John, but in that interview, he said nothing that could be construed as a conclusion that he would be bringing anyone in, just as you couldn't come to a conclusion that he wouldn't be bringing anyone in.
The only thing that could be construed from it was as you said....
Personally, and I don't get any inspiration for this thought from that interview, I think he will have a couple of decent players lined up who may come in right away or he may have to wait for their club to sort out their replacements. He will have a couple of weeks' grace to do that because after the Hull game, we have a couple of weeks to sort the problem.

Of course no indication was given one way or the other as to new players arriving.Having said that I thought that he was back to his very negative and defensive replies which he used when he missed out on players before. I have to say I was not very encouraged by his response and only hope that I am wrong.

Mick, it seems to me that when TP is struggling to make things happen the way he wants them to happen, he often hypes things up and suggests things are looking rosier than they are. In this interview he says, effectively, nothing, about our prospects of getting players in. I conclude that they are on their way in.
I'd say TP's best signings have "come out of the blue" as far as advance warnings are concerned. Lawrence, Diao (first time) and Fuller perhaps being the best examples of this.
You don't have to agree with me, of course, but I'll stick to my opinion, nonetheless, because I reckon my interpretation is correct.

John, I reckon there's summat wrong with your water up there if it makes you take anything postive [or negative] out of that interview other than he didn't talk any of his usual bullshit. Are you near Sellafield? I'd buy a Britta if I were you. I thought your eyes looked a bit too rimmish when I saw you in D's. M.

Mick, it may be a lifetime of interviewing scroats as part of my job but THAT interview sounded to me as if there WOULD be signings before long. Often it is what people DON'T say which is important. ;D Anyway, we're off now to see the New year in at Loweswater in the Western Lakes - so Happy New Year to one and all. GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRNNNNNNNN STOKE!

...and a happy new year to you too John. I'm glad you're coming round to my way of thinking....that Pulis is a scroat. See, we're not too far apart. BTW, I see your karma has gone down. It wonna me...honest! I'd already given time4apint a positive one for making me laff. M.

to be honest there was no difference in the interview on sat to the ones he was giving around the time he was struggling to bring players in just before the end of the last transfer window...in fact it was exactly the same

And that was my point all along Mr H it seems odd all the way out side of the window he has stated many times that the side needs strengthening then all of a sudden days before the window opens BINGO right back to the closed off defensive answers weird, almost robotic like.

whatever TP says or doesn't say to the press, we hold a strong strategic position going into Transfer month. Players in the prem. that aren't getting a regular run out would look at Stoke as a good bet for 1st team top league football next season Clubs looking to off load assets know that we already have a team capable of mixing it with the best in this division. We don't need to pay over the odds to compete. We have the cash but as has previously been demonstrated, we will not make a rushed deal
My prediction is...expect another interminable January of no transfer activity punctuated with a couple of loans, one outgoing 1st teamer and the signing of an out of favour defender that can play ok on the wing .

Nigel is not very good at asking direct and pertinent questions. However, references to team strengthening in January, i.e. today or tomorrow, were not getting an adequate response. It is perhaps 'we have been here before'. Empty promises once again. I hope I am wrong. I really do, because of what has gone before.
