Someone on here last week telling shit again, about how they knew he already made his mind up, LIAR. Stoke boss Tony Pulis is still sweating on Mama Sidibe's decision over whether to play in next month's African Cup of Nations tournament. Sidibe could miss up to half-a-dozen Stoke games if he declares himself available for Mali's campaign in Ghana. But he is still sitting on the horns of a dilemma after suffering horrendous injuries to his arm following a riot by Togo fans when Mali qualified for the tournament in October. Sidibe has since returned to action with Stoke, but has delayed making a decision on whether to return to the international scene. "I'm giving him right up to the wire to let us know," says Pulis, "because it's clearly a very important professional and personal decision for the big man. "No-one can really know what trauma he went through at the time of his injury - and I know his family are pulling him in two different directions on what he should do. "Obviously I'd prefer him to stay with us, but I will go along with whatever his final decision is." Mali open their campaign with a Group B clash against Benin in Sekondi on January 21. They then play Nigeria on January 25 and the Ivory Coast in Accra on January 29. The final is due to be played on February 10. Sidibe recently revealed how even his parents were split on the issue, with his mother telling him to stay in England and his father insisting he plays for his country. *Get all the latest Stoke news in tomorrow's Sentinel

After seeing the efforts of Mama in the 2nd half yesterday, I think that it may be best for all parties if he went to represent Mali.

My take on this is that whatever Mama decides he is in need of a rest from first team duties. This isn't solely based on his goal outout (or lack of it) but on his overall contribution over the last few weeks. I can accept Mama playing and not scoring when he is scaring defenders to death and generally making a bloody nuisance of himself, this season though he simply hasn't had that many good games and it is then that his lack of goals becomes a bigger issue.
Obviously we have Cress ready and willing to fill in up front and he'll certainly be a bigger goal threat but we will have to change how we play a little and presumably bring in a left midfielder in January as Pugh looks pretty settled at full back.
It will be interesting to see what happens, we know TP is happier with Mama up there but I think the time is approaching when his role in the team is going to come under severe scrutiny especially if he continues to be as ineffectual as yesterday.

Totally disagree with you lot on this one,i for one hope he stays and continues to play alongside Fuller because he his key to the way we play.Thought yesterday he had one of his poorest games for a while but the big man is vastly underated in my opinion.

There are two important factors to consider:
1) When Sidibe hasn't played for us for one reason or another, we've been less than impressive. This season, we scored more goals (hold on, haven't we scored 3 goals in 2 games running?) but conceded even more while he was out. 2) Fuller seems to prefer playing with Sidibe from his comments on the radio last week etc. Fuller is our most potent threat and it would make sense to give him a foil who he feels most comfortable with.
Alas, A lack of goalscoring contribution on Mama's part is indeed a worry. I'm not sure why we don't do a lot of individual work with him on composure and finishing. While he was unable to play because of his arm, what would have stopped him kicking a ball at some targets from standing?

mystical, sidibe as a lot of target practice, in fact hes had it 25 times in the league this year, you know what its called he practises at?? a GOAL! have you seen him hit it yet?? this bloke will cost us automatic promotion! he has got to chip in with something instead of looking like a dick!

Lets wait and see what happens then if he goes to the ANC and then have this discussion after but each to their own opinion deano. His goal tally for a striker is poor to say the least but while others are chipping in with goals at the minute i dont see a problem and lets tally up all the assists Sidebe has had for goals this season.

It is true that he is vital to how we play but we are carrying him at the moment and his performances don't justify his inclusion. If he gets back to terrifying defenders and winning his flick-ons I have no problem with him playing

if he went back to that style i would leave off him aswell jamo, but for some reason he as stopped doing it, im more frightened when he shoots than the opposition goalie and im on row 22!

Fuller prefers to play alongside Cresswell, he stated this in an interview when cresswell signed, his words were something like "Cresswell is the best striker he has ever played alongside" harking back to their days at preston.
Sidibe flatters to deceive because he out-muscles opponents but has no real contribution to the team

How do you work two assists out against WBA? He flicked Ric in for the first, Liams free kick set up the 2nd and Cress put Ric in for his third.
