I'm a little disappointed to hear Machine Head described as 'shit' live. They're one of the few outright metal bands I can be arsed to listen to and quite enjoyed them when I've seen them. As for NIN, you're not meant to like them - that's the point:

The might be outright metal but they seriously are toss live.
Rob Flynn ain't a frontman - he hardly moves.
Maybe they've improved since I saw them but the two times I saw them (supporting other groups) they bored me senseless.

I have never been able to persuade anyone of the relative merits of the awesome Meshuggah.
With regard to some of the previous entries:
Surely the most recent Machine Head album "The Blackening" is the best? They are VERY GOOD live.
Not sure that no one else likes "Slayer, Metallica etc??????
No one likes the Pigeon Detectives because their songs are a load of repetitive old wank - as are Scouting for Girls - ubberqunts!

My point about them being 'outright metal' is that most stuff that comes under the metal banner is utter, utter toss designed for teenagers who have yet to swap dungeons and dragons for the top shelf the point being re-enforced by some of the gash I saw supporting Machine Head.
I've tried to get into Meshuggah being a huge fan of Tool but I've never managed to latch onto them other than that vid they are miming to the song on the tour bus. Quite keen on Mastodon though.

Meshuggah . . hmmmmmmm what was that one track album called . . I've had it for ages but never managed to listen to it fully. A bit too repetitive for my liking.
I like many things that most folks don't mainly from the grindcore side of things. Although I kind of stick to the older classic stuff opposed to new stuff (this emo and nu-metal wank is just that utter wank!). I mean that gormless fucker in the Deftones with his 8 string guitar . . . in the old school they just detuned a 6 string and didn't give a fuck about needing top a top B or E.
Give me Napalm Death, Obituary, Entombed, Carcass et al any day of the week.

Machine Head (toatally wasted at leeds in that spot) Machine Head are wank live - so whatever 'spot' they were given is probably too good. First album excellent the rest very hit and miss. Machine Head. Wank Live???????????????????????????????????????????????? FUCK! Seen them twice, first supporting Metallica at Wembley and then on the Black Crusade tour. Both times they were fucking amazing. Plus we were stuck in the seats and managed to get a pit going with some mental portugese lads. LINE PIT!!!!!!!!!! Agree on most of the other heavier stuff mentioned on here and ill add Cannibal Corpse and the fanfuckingtastic Suicide Silence to the list.

Saw them a couple of years ago playing a live soundtrack to the 1950's 3D sci-fi movie, They Came From Outer Space (3D glasses were supplied), at Warwick University. Wierdly brilliant.

Nine Inch Nails Cradle of Filth Machine Head (toatally wasted at leeds in that spot) Simple Plan New Found Glory Thrice Alkaline trio The Wildhearts OI! I like Thrice and NiN. Infact, The Downward Spiral is one of my favorite albums ever. And brilliant call on Camel! You're right, they're so underrated. Moonmadness and Mirage are incredible. Some bands I'll add... The Afghan Whigs maudlin of the Well Fugazi Refused Deftones

Machine Head. Wank Live???????????????????????????????????????????????? FUCK! Seen them twice, first supporting Metallica at Wembley and then on the Black Crusade tour. Both times they were fucking amazing. Hmmmm I think that video backs up my wank opinion! Rob Flynn does nowt except stand, sing, play guitar and occasional shouts some shite at the crowd. Doesn't do bugger all else - the only time he moves is to get a drink! Kind of a poor mans Dave Mustaine which is being unkind to Mustaine! Compare Machine Head with say Pantera back in the day and you'll know the difference. I guess if you're a hardened fan you'll think they are 'awesome' live just because you love the music. I've seen many a band who I've not particularly like but they put on a real good live performance. Although I'll agree on Cannibal Corpse Oh throw the kings of old school rap metal - Stuck Mojo into the pot . . now they were FUCKING awesome live!

Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver (both albums)
If it were up to me I'd have Slash's children... And I just found a band called Explosions in the Sky who are quite decent

Is it therefore correct to define it as music that no one else likes? ???

Wouldn't say alot of people like them, well everyone likes the 4 most generic rock songs ever. There's an album of punk covers that is like "hair standing up on the back of your neck" good, so in answer to you're question yes they're loved way too much, but only the shite stuff IMHO anyway.
