You don't drop players for no reason and then try and sell them in the transfer window if you want to keep them do you?

Pulis wasnt exactly trying to keep him though was he?I suppose if you were treated shabbily at work with your boss telling lies about your ability to work,You wouldnt actively seek employment elsewhere?

And he did undervalue Hoefkens by £400,000 (or as near as makes no odds).
Let's not turn it into a Pulis-bashing exercise, but it's clear Pulis wasn't his biggest fan. His childish jumping up & down when he lost the ball was testament to that.

What are you basing that on Lawt? He turned down the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in Belgium to fight for his place. Again, if you changed job for a 7k a week pay rise, would that make you a mony grabbing twat? I take it you wouldn't do it? Especially after your boss dropped you and then tried to get rid of you?

if you "loved" the club and the fans so much you would stay no matter what, you wouldn't just run away like a coward to another club, it shouldn't be like a "job" for footballers, you cant compare it!!
think back to all the players who have never been given a go, most recentally gera, he could've buggered off to a prem club by now but he has stayed at the club he loves even though his manager hated him
besides pulis played hoefkins in every game, what more could he ask for, another 4k is just greedy.stoke city made him afterallll....

People who lose arguments always tend to turn to abuse, don't they lawt? ;D
Simply put, he was offered more money, at a bigger club, and this coupled with the manager's dislike for him persuaded him to go.
He returned to the side, if I remember rightly, because Clint Hill was suspended, leading to the reshuffle which saw Griffin move to LB and Higgy to centre back. They then went on a great run and Pulis sensibly decided not to change a winning formula.

Can't believe what i'm reading here!
He did what anyone else would've done without a shadow of doubt. Not only that, but I think it was pretty clear that he wanted to be earning what he was offered at his preferred club, Stoke. I have no doubt whatsoever that he didn't want to leave Stoke, and I wouldn't go as far to say he was forced out, but he was certainly given a very firm push by Pulis.
Carl Hoefkens is a very good player, loved our club and us, the fans, gave 100% every match and because of that he will get a large round of applause from me on Saturday. After 3pm though, he can fuck off. ;D
Goooooaaaaaarrrrrrrnnnnnn Stoke!

He was wanted so much at Stoke that they made him go to speak to a club in Belgium, when he didn't want to go. Pulis didn't really rate him, he was bound to go eventually. They didn't offer him a new contract and with only a year left, both sides got what they wanted. Him a pay rise and Pulis got rid.

Completely agree with you stokeuk474, Good player and a very friendly bloke! Does he still live in Stoke these days? He loved the club and even had a very nice poker table with the stoke badge in it. He shouldn't be booed for leaving IMO.
After 3pm however, he is the opposition and should be treated like any other West Brom wanker!
BOING BOING BAG OF SHIT BOING BOING BAG OF SHIT
Goooooarrrnnnn Stoke!

Stop being such a fucking prick lawt. Carl lives in Norton and has no plans to move as he loves the area and the people in it, apart from the dole scrounging chavvy racists that is.
Oh, and he's 50-50 for satdee so far.

I think the only treatment dished out to Carl should be a succession of deep crosses to the back post - we know how he loves to deal with those!

"He wasnt a Belgian international before we signed him after all" Sorry Sir Robin ... you need to check the facts ... 1st game for full Belgian team - June 1999 www.playerhistory.com/Default.aspx?page=player_details&playerID=802If it's worth anything I was gutted when he left, my favourite player by a country mile. Just goes to show how transient the game is ... we haven't really missed him, and I'm sure Cressie will cause him problems on Satdee. Although it's Liam's deep crosses to the far post with Ricki steaming in on them that I am really waiting for
