Should or priority be in January to try and secure the loanees on permanent deals, as it seems to take us so long to tie these deals up we could have them all signed by the start of pre-season ;D Seriously though you assume Cort and Pugh are done deals, is it time to try and test the water with Shawcross,Wright and Zak? Shawcross is an obvious 'no brainer' but Zak never seems to let us down when he plays and Wright is a good solid fullback albeight with an injury prone past(should fit in well) that Sunderland may be tempted with a low offer to lose him off the wage bill. All these players will know what to expect and what is expected of them from the club/fans/Pulis etc, and should be easier to convince than new signings, and possibly with the signing of Diao would be more keen to come as the ambition is starting to rise through. Top these with a couple of other loanees and we could have a squad to be reckoned with.

Send wright back & look for a better right back. Do everything we can to get shawcross & test the water with fulham about a small fee for Zakuani.

I'd put Wright back on the next train to Wearside. I think he's been pretty poor all season.
I think he's ours if we want him though, with him being out of contract in the summer and clearly not good enough for any role in the Prem.
So I fear he'll be staying long-term.

I'm not impressed with Wright. Positional play looks dodgy to me and he is slow to get back when he has gone forward. His best game for us was at left back, I think - but Pugh is better there because of his distribution.
I'd like to keep Pugh, Cort, Shawcross and Zak. 3 out of 4 would make me happy.

Wright needs getting rid of ASAP. He is very poor, and clearly not comfortable with the way that we play. As we have to accommodate Delap somewhere due to his ability to chuck the ball straight to the opposition keeper from 45 yards away, I'd drop Delap bak to RB.

Yeah - if only to keep his long throws. And, let's face it, that would actually be the only reason...

"ability to chuck the ball straight to the opposition keeper from 45 yards" - Mr M - ;D ;D ;D
Have you also noticed with Wright - every game now there are a couple of occasions where his passing is so bad, ending a potential attack by starting one for the opposing team that it draws a massive boo/hiss from the crowd, bringing everyone down. Agree we have Delap, Wilko and Zak there so he can knob off.

I'd rather see Wilkinson at RB personally, haven't seen loads of him but he has impressed me. If we're going to bang on about how expensive experience is all the time surely we have to take the plunge and promote at least some youth players? He's a bulky beggar as well, and we all know how TP likes a big 'un ;-)

I don't think you can fairly criticise Delap because of other players not being able to get on the end of his throws. The delivery is generally better than Lawrence's crosses.

Pugh and Cort are signed pretty much already, a fee of around £1M for Shawcross and a couple of hundred k for Zak and I'd be a happy Potter

Cheers, Mick. Assuming Delap is more likely to be in contention for right back now we have Diao then I'd say that in Delap, Cort, Shawcross, Zak, Pugh, Wilko and Dicko we'd have a better selection of good back four players than any team in the division. I've left De Matteo off because I don't think he will be with us beyond this season, whilst I think the rest should be. If we had a midfield group as strong as our back four options then we'd get auto promotion in my book. Lawro and Diao are good enough and Eustace is fine as a squad player but we do need two more don't we? Whelan and Routledge would suit me fine with, hopefully, Demar playing an increasing part.

Get rid of Wright. Try and get Shawcross and Zakuani, with Cort and Pugh already signed, sealed and delivered.
Midfield - 2 players, a central and left sided winger (if TP feel's Demar is not upto it), we have a squad as good as any in the league. At the moment we could well make the play-offs.

No need to sign Wright...he has a long history of not being able to put together 5 games. For me, it has to be Cort (done?), Shawcross, and Pugh (done?). If we can get Zak at a decent price then we have a solid squad of defenders (when adding Wilko and Dicko to this). Now then, onto some creativity!!!

Also add de laet into the group of defenders as I am sure he will get a chance to be moved up to first squad status at some point in the new year?
