No wheel from me Forny:
Brilliant if true. But doubtful they'd take just £1m?

rsb,
he's out of contract in the summer. I don't know if they would have much choice if he wanted to come?
Personally, i think a great deal woudl depend on what league we are in. I expect Ryan to sign on loan for the remainder of the season with an "agreement" between the two clubs should we attain promotion. Utd would get compo anyway because of his age.

They posted this on Saturday, so something seems to have happened in the meantime Man Utd's Shawcross set to stick with Stoke tribalfooball.com - December 08, 2007 Manchester United defender Ryan Shawcross is set to extend his loan at Stoke City. Shawcross' deal at Stoke is set to expire next month. Click Here

I think (hope) Dixie's theory is correct. At first glance £1 million seems a lot for a young player soon to be out of contract but, let's be honest, if we COULD sign Shawcross for £1 million (probably with a big sell on clause?) there isn't a Stokie who wouldn't be over the moon about it.

This appears to back up what I heard yesterday. Ryan apparently said he wants to sign on a permanent basis, Coates has offered Man Utd £1m, and is waiting for an answer.

fornie,
I think, given regular first team football, he'd be worth a damn site more than that in years to come.
£1M would be good business IMHO.
We still need midfielders though. Have i mentioned that? ;D

Hes worth the 1 million without doubt. Guess ManURE would want sell on clause but id still be happy as long as we get him.

I agree Dixie, maybe I didn't make myself very clear. I'd say there is a 50/50 chance Ryan will play for England and I would hope he soon gets an under 21 cap - but only AFTER we have signed him!
Agree about the midfielder we need a Diao type and a creative type and I'd be greedy and ask Santa for a winger with pace as well and that is assuming we sign Pugh and Cort on permanenet terms. Not sure about Wright though, his positional play is rubbish.

We certainly need to keep our fingers on the pulse of this one, which in itself would be very un-Stoke dare I say? There will be no shortage of takers for this lad should Fergie decide to let him go.

I'm not raving about Wright either fornie, especially given his fragility. I'd like to see us go for Kozluk from Barnsley. We should have signed him when he was on a free from Sheffield United. Good player.
Shawcross on loan, Quashie, Diao & Whelan in and i think we'll be top two. What that says about this division i will leave up to you.

this was in the sunday star yesterday, although this is the same sunday star that said we were about to sign matt jarvis the day before he joined wolves signing ryan is a must as far as i am concerned and i am aware that negotiations are ongoing. if we are prepared to pay £1m for quashie, then ryan would be a snip at the same price, perhaps we could waver any money that we stand to get from the ben foster deal as a negotiable point.

Right in one sense - it is a lot for a youngster etc etc, but surely everyone (Man Ure inc) can see this is all about potential and he has it to spare. Hence i wonder if that is actually too low.

I'd be surprised if Fergie lets us buy him. We might get him for another loan spell though.
If we actually do get him for 1 million quid and it's a big 'IF', it will be a great signing, bearing in mind that's what Burnley sold Thommo for.

OK lets be fair about this one. Man Utd offered £1m for our goalkeeper who had never played a senior game. We accepted. Stoke should offer the same for a player who has never played a senior game for them (and probably never will). They should bloody well accept considering the player we sold to them will probably play for England and should make a £5m+ move in the future. Sir Alex, it is only fair that you repay us that favour.

The info have have heard on this (which I heard a good few weeks ago) is that this could be very close to happening.
Lets just say that dont forget that Man Utd still owe us money for a certain Mr. Foster!!

Cossacs, i'm not advocating splashing the cash that has been so long in coming - but i agree, within limits, we should be prepared to go upwards of that figure for Shawcross.
The gamble is about potential & he has bags of it. If it is realised we'd be £'s in anyway as he'd do his bit to get us to the prem or by virtue of any sale if we didn't go up and he wanted to move on.
"John...John...Rudgey !.. . Get on that fookin Fergie hotline this minute."

£1m would be a steal. Even if we only got 2 seasons out of him & even if we didnt go up in that time we would get @ least double that come selling time.
2 points: 1: is £1m enough to get him? 2:will other clubs some in for him - to be fair we should be in pole position as far as CCC clubs are concerned.

agreed.
At £1M, there is limited risk, certainly considering (and this is not having a go) we are about to spend £1M on Cort.
I think Shawcross in 2 years time would be worth more than Higgy was.

I'd like to think that we'd get him for just a mill, but I honestly can't see it.
I think CCC teams with a bit more cash to splash will be sniffing around him in Janurary, maybe even a Premiership club. I remember reading something about Sunderland showing an interest.

Give 'em a mill, plus renegotiate on the terms of the Ben Foster deal. Everyones a winner.

Wardrobe/Sexualchocolate, it makes sense really. Potentially we may never see the full amount on the Foster deal, but maybe we could. But at the end of the day it would only come in in dribs and drabs. Offset that loss against the financial potential of reaching the Premiership and it makes sense...
...maybe.
