A subject that’s mentioned many times on here But I can’t find a thread
This morning I had a quote come through for my renewal on my 07 plate 407 sw the quote was £ 846 a increase of £180 Hastings direct been with them seven years
So whilst wandering around the delights of East Dereham town centre I popped into my local independent insurance broker Gave the young lady my car registration answered a few questions and the best quote like for like was £ 445 time took 10 mins A potential saving of £401 So it could well be worth checking quotes at renewal time

I was with Hastings for 2 years up until April, where my quote (Astra J Estate, 2013 plate, 1.7 Diesel, 8+ years NCB) went from £187 to £396 this year, they even tried a month before to 'make me aware that prices everywhere had gone up' as if to soften the blow
MoneySuperMarket/GoCompare checks and got it for £195 through Aviva.
Hastings contacted, "we can get it down to £355, would you like to renew that..." - errr no thanks.
My laddo passed his test in December last year (22, been away at Uni), got a car, initial quotes £1700+ on his own. Added myself and his mum as named drivers, cost came down to £1150. Bonkers system for risk assessment. (Top Tip though if you have a young one wanting insurance!)

I had similar issue with the Kuga in July. My annual premium had increased from £290 to £445. It is with LV so I called them and the agent said it is an increase by most insurance companies because of the cost of replacing expensive sensors that are damaged. The lead time to get replacements means insurance companies are pay much more for hire cars. The cost of this is spread across the industry. Additionally he said EVs are costing the insurance industry when repairing them which is also being spread across. He eventually gave me the agent discretionary discount and I got it £380. I did a compare the market and LV came out as amongst the cheapest for my car.

I've been driving since 2010 and only renewed with the same company once.
All the online comparison sites save your previous details so only takes a few minutes to shop around. This year is the 1st time I've had to pay more for my insurance but it was only around £20 extra, My renewal offer was £90 more.
I'm now with Aviva Zero, previously been with tesco, Hastings, Go skippy, AA, Admiral, esure, Onecall. Can't really rate 1 over another as thankfully never had to make a claim so not needed to contact them.

Just do what I do and don't bother insuring it. If you get caught out, it only works out to around the same cost as what some decent insurance would in terms of a fine.
Yours, Martin Lewis.

If you do under 10,000 miles a year, try By Miles. They charge you by the mile. For me, it cost around £350 a year compared with the cheapest alternatives of well over £700. Plus their customer service is brilliant.

I'm genuinely considering doing this. Insurance is fucking scam. My quote from the very same Hastings Direct had increased by a staggering £800 - for the same car, no change in circumstances etc, and with one more year of no claims. Of course, I went straight online and found a quote for less than what they were charging me before. When I phoned Hastings Direct to cancel my policy upon it expiring, they were magically able to match the price that I'd got from another insurer. Bunch of rip-off cunts. I cancelled (obviously) but that shower of fucking charlatans wouldn't let me off the phone for half an hour and only did so when I finally snorted "JUST FUCKING CANCEL IT!". An absolute racket is what insurance is.

An absolute racket is what insurance is. The problem comes when you are involved in a serious injuries accident and victims come after you for personal injury claim. Even with 3rd party only insurance you will be covered for injury to others and this can be considerable. The £800 cost of insurance will be dwarfed by the personal injuries claim. Additionally ANPR cameras are not just on police vehicles they are now on roadside surveillance cameras that also see you on your mobile phone and not wearing a seatbelt. Yes the fine for not having insurance may be less than your annual premium but the consequences of not having it can last your lifetime. Please don’t do it.
