Things like this is why I like the Nations League. Yes, it'll always be a distant third place behind the World Cup and Euros for the big nations like England. But it's format allows teams of similar ability to play each other regularly in semi competitive fixtures as a contrast to the regular tournament qualification groups which are seeded and weighted in favour of the big teams. So it's good for us because we get semi competitive games against the likes of France, Germany, Spain etc (when we don't stupidly allow ourselves to get relegated like last time) which is a big improvement over the previous pointless friendlies. And it also allows the whipping boys to have a bit of fun and play in competitive matches against countries they can actually compete with and get a few wins on the board and a bit of 'glory' by their standards. Which allows nice stories like this to happen. Surely that means Liechtenstein must now inherit their worst team in the world title since they've managed to lose to them twice?

Fair play to them. I was wondering if San Marino were an english football club what league would they be in?
Would they make the Conference or even possible League 2? Only a population of about 60,000 to draw from.

Only a population of about 60,000 to draw from. Their best players play in the Italian fourth tier which won’t be anywhere near League 2 standard. Even most conference teams are fully professional now aren’t they. I doubt they’d get close to the top six or seven tiers of English football

Only a population of about 60,000 to draw from. Their best player plays for a Serie C side which is barely conference level football. The majority are not even professional players.

San Marino is a very picturesque place. I would encourage anyone to visit who is in that part of Italy.

I agree although the original format was much better when each league had three teams and the bottom one was relegated. Germany got relegated, and then it was fixed so the top league then had four teams so Germany wasn't relegated. I immediately lost interest in the format. Three teams makes for much more peril.

The greatest quarterback never to win a superbowl. Go Phins 🐬 Fuck Marino. Jim Kelly was much better. Squish the fish, and go on squishing them til they’re all squished out.
