I know. I’m in 2 minds about elected Lords. The principle is sound, but we hardly have a good record of electing “good people” into power…. Would you rather we let those "good people" we elect choose who go into the Lords and remember they are appointed for life!! Exactly the point that makes it difficult. The Lords, for all its flaws, has generally been a source of moderation of some of the worst aspects of laws coming from the Commons in recent years. There are many exceptional members of the Lords. But also ridiculous appointments there. At least they are getting rid of hereditary peers! But changing the electoral system away from FPTP and regulating MPs (and Lords) and their behaviour and second sources of income is a far more important issue than electing the Lords, in my opinion.

Democracy means all members of both houses must be elected, I fully agree our current FPTP system is not fit for purpose for the commons so we need to start again from scratch. With regard to second incomes I would outlaw but be be in favour of much higher salaries for MP's and Ministers which I know would be extremely unpopular with most of the country.

I agree completely with your second paragraph

I agree completely with your second paragraph I don't disagree but they would need to prove they are qualified in the ministerial portfolios they are given, even at the most junior level.

dunno the snake snell blocked me for daring to question his voting record again a lying fuckwit of the highest order i wish nothing but ill for him I'll be honest, I wrote to both Snell and Gideon in their previous terms and Snell was streets ahead in terms of effort and communication, Gideon was all over local radio until it was evident the Tories were fucked then she disappeared. Not that I voted for him mind 🙂

I also think during a term in office an MP should not be allowed to move from senior cabinet role to another senior cabinet role. They get appointed and stay in that role or go back to being just an MP. Ridiculous that the Minister for Transport one year can become the Health Minister the next, then Defence Minister etc etc. These are roles that need continuity and accountability, pick them for their skillset and give them 4/5 years to stand by their actions.......

Absolutely. Otherwise the incoming minister just does things for the hell of it to “make their mark” perhaps undoing years of work towards another path. I think the planned ministerial appointments and each of their departmental plans should appear in manifestos too.

You're spot on, it's absolutely bizarre. It's also how we ended up in the incredible, totally embarrassing situation we did with Victoria Atkins 🤦🤡 I'm still unsure if her appointment as drugs minister was a massive piss take or just gross incompetence 🤷
