At long last the the horrible smug bastard is leaving MOTD Come on down Mark Chapman Jesus. If you want a smug arsehole then Chappers is your man. 'An absolute twat' is the verdict of a friend who works with him. He gives me that impression when I watch him. Have noticed he doesn’t like being challenged or interrupted, and visibly gets irritated if he is.

I think Lineker is good - he makes it seem easy as Lynam did before him, which is a sign of a job well done. The only one I like from the professionals, who haven't been players, is Colin Murray. He won't get it though.

I don’t like Chapman - there’s just something about him that grates with me and I have no idea what. But if he got the job I wouldn’t be that bothered.
Obvious choice for me is Romesh Ranganathan.

Do teenagers watch MOTD still?
If I want to watch Premier League highlights I watch them on the Sky Sports app on my phone, so can't imagine teenagers are any different. I'd probably watch it if we were in that league still to be fair.

It's a bit sad when people are judged by their personal views rather than their ability to do the job. People can't accept people having different views even on a football show where they only talk about football, it's ridiculous. It's not even for football reasons why a lot of people don't like him, that's a YOU problem not a him problem

Wonder why he has decided to go now?
I wonder if its a bit the BBC wanting him gone so they can look more impartial.
Hes been great to watch over the years - became a bit of an institution and loved his genuine support for England during major championships

I'd probably watch it if we were in that league still to be fair. If you have the time, then watching the half hour extended Premier League highlights segments on Sky Sports from 10 p.m. onwards is much better. MotD has always been useful though when you don't have time to spare and just want to see some quickie highlights. As soon as Lineker and his cronies start their mumbo jumbo though, I switch off and look at my phone until the next match comes on.

It's not even for football reasons why a lot of people don't like him, that's a YOU problem not a him problem The trouble with personal views (cf: Lineker/MoTD) is that those views taint an objective discussion of whether he, and the programme itself, is any good. If someone is pleased he's leaving the programme because he is rich and outspoken on socio-political issues, then that is on them, not him.

Good presenter, annoying person whose views I don't agree with.
Which is fine. But certainly won't lose a wink of sleep over it.
See ya Gary, you leftie loon (winky emoji, saying in jest, don't do that leftie thing where you get wound up)

Most of my friends would disagree with me a lot of the time, politics and religion are 2 subjects to avoid when with your mates so if ever they come up in conversation it quickly ends and we move on. They are entitled to think for themselves, it's not my business and I don't care

Haven’t watched it since we were relegated and even when we were PL I got fed up of waiting for over 90 minutes to watch 60 seconds of our game being shown last.

He died few weeks ago….oh sorry Alison Hammond. Lineker was quoted as saying at 63 it was time to think about slowing down……ffs how much slower can you get than working couple of hours a week sat in an armchair spouting the bleedin' obvious getting paid £1.25m a year.

Watched it quite happily until we got promoted, from which point it became obvious that the editing was the only thing more biased than the matchday refereeing. Lots of problems with MOTD; Lineker was the least of them.

The fact that so many people, me included, didn't realise that MOTD was filmed live every week shows you what a good presenter he is. Won't be easy to find a decent replacement, especially with the experience he's got in the game.

It's going to be incredibly difficult to replace Lineker, as you say he makes it seem easy, just like Lynam did.
Unless it's somebody completely left field who nobody has mentioned and is a total wildcard, I do think that Jason Mohammad is going to be probably the closest to meeting that specific criteria.
