Wondered how our start this year compared with others during this spell of gloom in the second tier.
18-19 W5 D5 L5 F19 A20 Pts 20 (Next: a decent spell of 8 unbeaten (W3 D5) up to Christmas got us into 9th, before the Rowett times went really bad and Jones came in).
19-20 W2 D2 L11 F13 A27 Pts 8 (Next: we got rid of Mr Godwilling and eventually steadied the ship starting with that riproaring win at Barnsley).
20-21 W7 D4 L4 F22 A18 Pts 25 (won our next game and were leading Cardiff to potentially go 2nd before Campbell's injury, Vokes's miss and a what might have been feeling as the season slipped away).
21-22 W6 D4 L5 F20 A19 Pts 22 (won our next three without conceding which had us fourth, but Souttar did his knee and our season in the break before the last of them. Still got our highest points in a season - 62)
22-23 W5 D4 L6 F17 A18 Pts 19 (won some, lost some, had some really good wins then fell away under Neil to get our lowest points in a season, 53)
23-24 W6 D2 L7 F16 A18 Pts 20 (we completely fell apart - just one point from an 'easy' run of games, Neil sacked Schuey comes in).
24-25 W5 D4 L6 F18 A19 Pts 19 (what do you reckon happens next?)
I'll go for - a good run with 12 points from next 6 gets us dreaming, before an awful Christmas brings us back to earth. Lawal becoming a mainstay, plus a great new January signing (tba, maybe a Catalan!) gets us back up to 8th and 65 points at the end of the season.

Get burger into some form
Keep koumas, Phillips and cannon (no January recall)
Lawal comes in a he’s better than what we currently got
2 x decent defensive signings in January who hit ground running
This above and we stand half a chance of playoffs, but minimum out best points total since relegation (doesn’t take much I know!)

Just goes to show how comparatively good we were under MON and what a solid job he did given he probably had the lowest about of resources at his disposal than others before and since.
I still can't tell if NP has us going forwards or backwards. It's on a bit of a knife edge for me still.

If you want to be negative about it only the Nathan Jones fiasco has been worse.
But to be honest compared to most seasons listed we're just below average.

He wasn't perfect, but I liked him, and he was unlucky that such key players got injured in both of the full seasons he had. I don't think we'd have gone up, but sure with Campbell and Souttar fit we'd have managed top half.

10 game unbeaten run and into the top two, it's a bad day to give up sniffing glue...

Considering we lost 3 of those in the first 5, thats a decent recovery and puts us back in the mid table mix, where its literally up for grabs who gets the Playoff places - anyone from top (31pts) down to Cardiff in 22nd (15pts) could go on a run of poor/ace form and be up there in the top 6. Next 6 I think we will win 3, draw 2 and lose 1 which is decent enough Season I think we will get to 65 points, just short of the playoffs but a reasonable improvement, but good stead for next season. Too many young lads this season to make a dent, they will drift in and out of form, pressure on young shoulders is tough. But green shoots since SS left and a real togetherness. Got to fancy Portsmouth and QPR to go down at this point having seen them play live and on tv, the 3rd place is TBC! Leeds and Burnley you would think will get over the line, although Leeds are Leeds after all so who knows. Sunderland had a good start but unsure if they can maintain. There isnt much between the rest, Sheff Utd probably the strongest squad.

If you want to be negative about it only the Nathan Jones fiasco has been worse. But to be honest compared to most seasons listed we're just below average. Ironically we're dead on average across those seasons (114 points total over 6 seasons / 19 point per season). There are two outlier seasons - one good, one awful. The rest are pretty much the same. The next 5 games will give us a very good idea of progress....more than 7 or 8 points and we're going great guns, 5 or less and we're struggling. In terms of actual underlying improvement, my worry is we're 2 injuries or drops of form away from playing poorly. We need better cover in particular for VJ and Seko as they feel instrumental to us. We're getting away with Million being off form at the moment as Junho has stepped up, but it feels a bit of a knife edge. On the flip side, if Gallagher and Lawal get fit and firing then we could really be in business.

As others have said, I think it all hinges on the squad. Gallagher being back will give us so much more, especially from the bench, but how long will he even stay fit for?

We are still a chance for the playoffs. Stay cool. . . . . . and relegation,. Be afraid! Any team, well almost any, would be at risk of relegation at a point where there's 31 games still to play. All it takes a couple of injuries to key players and a bad run which somehow can't be turned around, and even Watford, WBA and Burnley shouldn't celebrate their current positions just yet.

Like to see this manager get to the window and see what we bring in come Jan. In many ways he seems to have the same work ethic and mentality of Pulis, miles apart football wise, but just get the same vibe as I did with Pulis - that we could be on to something good.
It's a results game though and if we lose the next 3 or 4 and slip into danger we will be calling for his head. Team do look like they have a bit of direction and I feel a bit of momentum building too - and with a few tweaks in Jan we could finally start to have a team we could really get behind, atmosphere already getting a bit better at games, that comes from the team first.
