In a championship match? Yes it was against a team that don’t really want the ball and play for moments in games but surely it’s a step in the right direction if there’s an end product.

Watching the game I did think Gibson had too much of the ball. We need a midfielder to pick it up deeper and with a two that’s pretty difficult.

Possession doesn't mean much at all - just ask Southampton fans about it!
Edit: mainly said that due to comments from a mate who's a Saints fan, but here's an excerpt from BBC website:
"Before the weekend, Saints ranked second in the Premier League for their passing accuracy (88.3%) and successful passes per game (468), while their possession averaged 55.1% – the fifth highest in the division.
They dominated the ball again at Molineux, having 71% of possession, but were unable to force Jose Sa into a meaningful save. Saints have scored just seven times in the league this season."

And yet it ended 1-1. Possession without purpose is just turgid.

Millwall made it difficult defending their own half with two banks of 4 Without the big centre forward probing for gaps, trying to get in behind and wide was the only option Thought Stoke did it quite well

It's how Millwall play look at their previous 4 games all won with opponents having 60 or 70% possession

I'm not sure having a midfielder come deeper is always the right option. All that does is mean we have one less midfielder available to pass to, especially against teams that don't press us. We need better movement from the midfield to allow the centre backs to play it forward, between the lines, rather than sideways.

Bocat spent the whole of the first half playing backwards. He didn't even try to find a forward ball on numerous occasions. He improved second half.

I'd rather have 30% possession and look to do something with it on the break. Possession for possession sake is the most boring football imaginable.

It's how Millwall play look at their previous 4 games all won with opponents having 60 or 70% possession And it worked for them to perfection against Burnley and Leeds amongst others. I think we should be giving the players and Pelach a bit more credit for getting the point, especially after going behind.

Watching the game I did think Gibson had too much of the ball. We need a midfielder to pick it up deeper and with a two that’s pretty difficult. Our problem is the willingness, confidence and ability to pick it up and turn in midfield and then advance rather than immediately pass it backwards. The only time we really seem to be able to it is against teams who want to press high but make a hash of it or teams like Millwall that sit and give the deep midfielder space. The midfielders don’t look for it enough and the defenders shit themselves when they have to pass into the centre. I did think that the way sidibe came and looked for the ball between their men and had the confidence to actually ask for it was impressive. All too often, particularly with Burger, he’s there for the pass but his body language says “no thanks” and the defender then takes the safe option to the full back.

Shame most of it was in our half with Gibson having 151 touches The reason Gibson had so many touches is that 90% of the time Phillips had possession he turned to his left and did a sideways pass. He hardly ever gets his body shape in the correct position to pass to his right. And he NEVER looked forward to try and break any press. It crippled us in the first half and Pelach was absolutely correct to replace him with Rose early in the second half.
