So…..what’s the story?
Where has the Burger we loved gone??
Against Blackburn he was completely bossed by Cantwell. In general he looks leggy and doesn’t even seem to want the ball.
What’s going on?
If we had him firing like he was then we potentially trouble the top 6.
I’m very very confused.

He was good 2nd half against Blackburn.
Cantwell is a very good player, operates in that awkward area between the defence and midfield and always plays on the half turn.
I thought his influence was minimal after about 35 mins of running the show…..

If he doesn’t improve before January cash in.
Assuming we can find a buyer.

And there was a noticeable improvement in his game when Seko was on the pitch. Still not at the levels of the previous season though.

I thought his influence was minimal after about 35 mins of running the show….. Bang on. It also helped when Seko came on. As a pairing they compliment each other very well. As a lone midfielder Burger tends to struggle but pair him up and he's far far better. Moran doesn't compliment his style at all hence the reason he looks a bit lost.

will be helped no end when we have Bosun in there.
A midfield 3 of Bosun Burger and Seko/Moran will hopefully be quite productive for us.

Bosun Burger and Seko is just what we’ve seen almost all season in one guise or another ie putting a player in an unnatural role.

Maybe I’m being harsh but he just looks way off the pace in general.
Jaded, tired or something to do with his mentality.
No doubting his ability but his influence on games is nowhere near where it should be.

I don't 'get' Burger - he doesn't really protect the back 4, he doesn't really offer a threat going forward, he is pretty unathletic for his role.....luckily for us, Cantwell decided for some reason to go deeper and deeper to get on the ball the more the match went on. First half, he completely dominated, and I'd be asking my defensive midfielders just why? It's their job to stop the #10 influencing the game.
Second half, Seko did a lot of the hard yards and actually made Burger better just by being athletic and aware. And yet again, Burger's lack of fitness sees him getting a booking as he can't keep up with runners. He's a tidy player when playing well, but nothing more. Seko, in a few games, has shown exactly what we need in there. Hopefully, he'll give Burger the chance to get on the ball and pass it far more than he has. At present, his price tag is looking around £3.5m too much.

Cantwell has the potential to be one of the better midfielders in this league and I thought he was real good against us. So I don’t think that should be used too much against Burger.
However that said, he really just doesn’t seem enough of an athlete in order to be hugely effective for us. Similar to Pearson in those aspects. Just looks so leggy at times.

I just think he was never as good as we all thought. He should be running games for us in his second season and he's mainly chasing shadows and not making killer passes.
I don't think it's anything deeper than that. He's a 4 million quid player which is about average for championship midfielders.
Cantwell really showed him up for sure

If we had him firing like he was then we potentially trouble the top 6. I’m very very confused. Most of the time he is on his own in midfield and easy to pressurise when he gets the ball, especially as only Stevens is comfortable bringing the ball forward from the back. Moran is okay in possession but poor without it, providing no defensive support. Seek did well on Saturday but didn't have much impact on Wednesday and also lacks physical presence. if we keep playing 4-4-2 with Moran in the middle two, it will eb tough for any midfielder. The hope if Laval of a rejuvenated Pearson can fill the void

He's absolutely fine when playing deeper in a 2. I'd like to see anyone play in midfield alone or with Moran who is naturally more advanced.
Been nothing wrong with his performances over the last couple of weeks.

To be fair i think burger and bae have been slow starters this year. The two standouts from last season. Funny old game.
Paper talk and bae signing the nike deal and doing the SKorean vogue probably hasnt helped.

He played alright against Derby and was good in the second half against Blackburn from the reports.
No conundrum.
Play him with Seko.
Lovely stuff.

He looked really awkward on the ball against Blackburn & it was almost like he was uncomfortable playing in that position. Cantwell had him in his arse pocket. As for improving second half he got booked after Sako came on & I was pretty certain he was going to end up with a red. Only positive is he seems to be getting through 90 minutes these days.

It'll be a fun problem to have when Lawal is fit
Reckon there will be times for a defensive midfield of Lawal - Burger Seko
There will be times for more attacking lineup
Lawal Seko - Moran
Loads of options, Burger for 20 mins at the end of a game is huge compared to what we have now, same with Seko/Moran
Similar with Koumas/Cannon/Bae/Milli too up front, options. Something we havent had for a while!
He does seem unfit which is a worry, is often blowing out of his backside by 60 mins (he was the same last season), but strangely on Weds he was really off it 1st half but improved 2nd - maybe he just isnt cut for the box to box role and needs to just sit and be the deep option
I said at the game on Weds we had far too many attacking players on 1st half not tracking back or helping out, leaving Burger and the back 4 exposed Seko made a huge difference to Burgers game.

Only 6 players were signed for over £4m this summer and only one of them was a centre mid (Jack Rudoni).

Still not at the levels of the previous season though. He was ok second half fair enough. But he was non existent in the first half. And that’s being kind. He was also doing the job of 3 players in the first half given that Junho and Moran were even more non existent than he was. The OTT criticism of Burger is baffling to me and when you listen to some of the arseholes sat in the stand, it's ridiculously annoying. I don't get it at all.
