I have just heard the awful news that Bryan Shaw has passed away. Many on here will have known Bryan - a home and awayer for many years until he became ill. Bryan and Tony Tams were regulars together for all away games on coach 2, and now they've both gone within a short period. Bryan had chaired the Supporters Club for many years until his health forced him to stand down. Deepest condolences to Pat and all his family and friends. Thanks Bryan for all you did for the Supporters Club and for your company and friendship to so many fellow fans.

He ran coach 2 with Marg when I started going to away games as a young lad.
Both assured my mum that we’d be fine on the “pop and crisps” bus and those assurances enabled me to go to more games than I otherwise would have been able to. But for Brian (and Marg) I'd have missed out on a couple of special nights away at Anfield and Peterborough in the early 90's.
Condolences to Bryan’s family and friends.

I never got to know Bryan as a person but was very aware of him as a fan, particularly at away matches going back many years. He was one of the regulars who you would see everywhere. R I P.

I used to travel to matches with Bryan in the hired mini bus away travel he used to provide to most away matches in the mid to late 00's particularly the early Prem years?
Always used to meet up at Stoke Police Station & away we'd go for the day. Remember going to the FA Cup match at Hartlepool with Bryan, that was a long journey home, newly crowned giant killing victims!
Had seen that his health had declined in recent years. Unknowingly knew members if his family as well from other circles but hadnt realised the link until saw photos of Bryan with his family yesterday..
Very sad News..
Heavens definitely gained a master Potter there to oversee proceedings ⚪️🔴

Absolutely dreadful news. Bryan was an absolute gentleman, and a face you would see all around the country following his beloved Stoke City. Had so many chats with him whilst selling the mag, and it's another lovely, lovely Stokie that sadly is no longer with him.
RIP Bryan.

So sad to hear of Bryans passing Again Stoke City has lost a fanatical supporter and a wonderful man We shared a passion for football progs and for years Bryan got my progs for me and then I would go to his house in Trentham and reimburse him.Bryan was an avid collector of books and autographs and anything football related. I remember a few years ago travelling with Bryan and Tony Tams who also recently died down to see Stoke at Yeovil and Torquay Utd I was keen to tick off a few pubs but Bryan and Tony were quite content to trawl the second hand bookshops looking for any football memorabilia RIP Bryan

Just heard of this sad news. Thinking of his family right now. I grew up with Bry when he lived in Merton Street, half way or so up Anchor Road, Longton. He was 2 or 3 years older than most of 'the gang' so we saw him as the wise man! He was always the comedian or entertainer and a master at changing the lyrics of songs of the day to comedic effect!
Growing up on the 'Hill' I remember his sister Hazel and his father Joe who was quite a small man around 5'2" and was the nicest guy you could wish to meet. His mother, May, was a large woman who was always seen wearing a white pinafore! Their house in Merton Street was a really small 2 up, 2 down and had an unusually wide front window that suggested it might have previously been a shop. The floors were red quarry tiled and were very irregular, indicative of subsidence. It is not surprising that most of Merton Street was eventually demolished.
Bryan was a massive Slade fan and knew the lyrics to their singles off by heart. When you met him, he would often greet you by bawling out 'Ma-Mama were all crazy now'...
I used to go autograph hunting with him and I remember in particular when he said that Leeds were staying at the North Staffs Hotel. I think this was 22-02-1974, on the eve of the famous Stoke 3-2 comeback victory, but it could perhaps have been earlier. True enough, we got the autographs off a few players and had a memorable chat with Don Revie when he came out to take the evening air. After a while, I suggested going home but Bry said that Jack Charlton had not come out yet, Bry then explained that Jack always went to the cinema on the night before the game and true to form, Jack shortly appeared and got into the awaiting taxi to Hanley! Earlier in 1972 my dad drove Bryan and myself to London for the 1972 League Cup final win in his Austin Cambridge, registration number LAC 503E. I have fond memories of going to Tranmere away with Bryan during our cup run.
On the car theme, c.1974, when Bryan hinted at wanting to learn to drive (later than most as I think by now he was aged about 20), my dad set about finding a car for him. My dad worked for the council and looked after lots of the City 'council' lock-up garages. He soon found him an ancient, but cheap, Austin A40 that had not moved for a while and negotiated the purchase off the elderly owner. Bryan's second car was a 1969 or 70 'H' registered Ford Capri 2.0 GTXLR in the colour of Modena Green. He bought it off my Uncle who used to buy and repair 'write offs'. It was originally silver but my uncle changed this to green. Bryan did not own the Capri for long before he had a major accident on the A34 on the way back from Stafford (I think after seeing his girlfriend Sue, who was his first wife). He lost control of the car and hit a few trees on the central reservation. I can't remember if he sustained any injuries, but he seemed to survive the accident OK. The car however was not a pretty sight and was written of for the 2nd time.
In 1974 I was at the Sixth Form College in Fenton and not being good enough to make the college football team I decided to set up a team to play in the local 'Staffordshire County Minor Youth League'. I seem to remember that the age limit was 16, possibly 17? Anyway, my favourite rock band at the time was Deep Purple, so I called the team 'Blackmore FC'. We joined the league and the majority of our players were from the college. However, we did include Bryan as our rock-solid centre half despite him being 19 or 20 years old! We never got rumbled, but unfortunately Bryan could not disguise the fact that we were garbage! We finished bottom of the table only having achieved 1 point via a draw against Barlaston FC! Great days though, and it was all about the comradery! On the pitch, Bry was a great inspiration and leader.
Bryan was a true 'Stokie' a man of humour, a good soul and will be sorely missed.
