No, absolutely not. Every team in the league thinks there’s some sort of conspiracy with refereeing but there’s isn’t. The standard of refereeing is fairly poor, but it’s been like that for literal decades. We’re absolutely not special and we never have been. As long as our players on the pitch do their job the referee is more or less irrelevant. There isn’t a conspiracy, but there is a concious bias working against us at home. Nobody can tell me that refs don’t see Stoke at home as a game where they can be seen by the powers that be to “stand up to the crowd”. But it’s based on Stoke of 10-15 years ago. We get refereed as though we are a big strong physical outfit when we are not. Teams like Derby and Millwall are allowed to come to stoke and play every dirty trick in the book when at say, Burnley or Sheff Utd there shirt pulling and ankle taps and would be stamped out immediately. It’s a lazy predetermined attitude but it helps them climb the greasy pole. Ironically the other side that suffers from ghat is Millwall where refs go and think 'got to be strong here' and end up given decisions to the away team they wouldn't normally as bad as the non award of the penalty was can accept he didn't see it (nor his linesman) even if that's difficult to comprehend wham it was so clear cut I actually think not giving red card for terh shiocking fould in front of the dug outs was worse as he saw that one & deemed it a yellow, he should get hammered for that class from Pelach, that sort of comment will stand in good stead as refs will see him as a fair man & as such we may some 50/50 decisions go our way more often

Sadly we were used as Guinnpigs for this referee. After 20 mins you could tell his inability to make a clear decision and then inconsistent in what was a foul and what was not.
Also a special mention to seasoned assistant ref Gill Singh who is not very good at the best of times but i fear his eyesight now is beyond repair, not seeing the penalty and his offside calls wow.

Little pulls on the shirt hear and there in really critical spots. The goal is a classic example when you watch it back. If Gibson doesn’t score it should be a pen, defender has his shirt the whole way, would never be given and that was happening all over the pitch, through balls going nowhere 4 or 5 times because they’ve got a shirt pull or an off the ball body check in.

Besides watching the game I also watched the 4th official Ben Toner quite a lot today from my seat behind the dugout and it was noticeable he was constantly talking to the ref in his earpiece(guiding him through the game) and for every corner he walked down the touchline watching everything that was going off.Its the first time I’ve noticed this and it was like he was feeding info to him being the more experienced official. If Finnie isn’t good enough he shouldn’t be reffing at this level full stop. Also to add he hadn’t got a clue what to do when the Millwall player went in on Bocat

The Wyntl late challenges he could not see either on Moran or Vic but obviously reacted after the Vic so maybe Toner told him but how did they the ref team miss the early one Moran. He let too much go from the start, including dangerous Heavy shoves in the back when you are in the air notably.

Suspect it was retribution for the verbals in the box on the corner a few mins earlier.

If it was that important a game I doubt a rookie ref would have appointed. Very high regards that Chico commented the ref made a mistake " which is fine " because " I've made mistakes " incredibly honorable bloke.

As someone said above burger is now suspended as a direct result of the referee/lino/4th officials incompetence.. The lino on the west stand side missed 2 blatant balls out of play in the second half as well, one for each side, apparently fans in the franklyn lower were giving him grief and he was handsignalling them to quieten down 🙄

He was on that side of the pitch level with the 2 players with a clear view of what happened. If he couldn't see Cooper reach out and pull Burger back from his position then he needs to go to Specsavers.

As a question, if the officials have completely confirmed that they didnt see the pull for the penalty that never was, then shouldn’t it be a retrospective red card for the Millwall player then?
Wouldn’t benefit us but Millwall as a club can go fuck themselves.

Just read this opinion off the refs forum about Will Finnie in our game against Millwall Stoke v Millwall - Will Finnie Posted by MKRef on 11 Nov, 2024 21:27 My first time seeing Will Finnie after his call-up to replace James Bell. First half I thought he did quite well. An early flashpoint saw him defuse the tensions and communicate strongly with the players involved. I got the impression from that he's less robotic than some of the other development group refs. I will credit him with a very good advantage late in the first half. Ashley Phillips was fouled but he held his whistle before Stoke managed to create a promising attack leading to a Tom Cannon shot. However (the dreaded however), it went wrong early in the second half. Stoke had a corner which after a bit of bobbling around landed at the feet of Wouter Burger. He's three yards out and about to shoot but Jake Cooper man handles him from behind stopping the shot. A penalty and red card, given the lack of an attempt to play the ball, should have been awarded. But Finnie waved it away. Stoke players remonstrate leading to a yellow card to Burger, meaning he's suspended for Stoke's next game. Clip of the incident: x.com/tonypaley/status/1855244881070903789Dermot Gallagher on Ref Watch this morning spoke about his poor positioning making him unable to see it. After that there was only one other incident to note when Romain Esse went strongly into a sliding tackle in front of the dugouts. That caused a crowd scene and the usual pushing and shoving. The yellow to Esse for the tackle looked an appropriate sanction. Reasons to believe Finnie can continue to progress given the right coaching as there was aspects I liked to his refereeing style and demeanour. However, the missing of the KMI will ruin his mark for this game.

I agree mate. As I said before, right after the game I was shown an angle looking from the Boothen End and the ref whilst quite a long way away (a couple of yards outside the box) had a totally unrestricted view of the incident. And as you say the side on view show the linesman with a perfect view of the pull with an unobstructed line of sight. Both massively bottled it.

Wonder if he’ll recind Burgers yellow for protesting I think the only way a yellow card can be rescinded is for mistaken identity. I think the argument would be that the ref's decision should not be questioned even if he was wrong. Otherwise there would be no point in bookings for dissent as most are the result of a perceived mistake by the ref.
