Personally I think that as it is the playing ability which is being assessed, that "player of the match" is a better term than "man of the match" or "woman of the match" in women's football.
I think "batter" gives a common language between men's and women's cricket which makes things simpler rather than introducing "batswoman" into the language. Although I find that more difficult to get used to, in time it will just become the norm, as these things do.
Nothing to do with "wokery" ( whatever that means) in my view, and not something worth getting upset about.

And yet bowlers have been bowlers for around 200 years and no one has objected to that. What about Third Man? Haha. Third person.??

Someone cared enough that they felt that it had to be changed. Which is comical in its own right. The world is just nonsense. And someone else cared enough to make a thread on the Oatcake about it ... Adding to the intended comedic effect. And in the grand scheme of things, it means fuck all.

I’m fairly certain it’s to do with the current push for more inclusivity (which I’m all for) rather than it being anything to do with anything else.

I’m too passive to care personally. I was just pointing out the other side of it. It’s funny that people are bothered either way.

Well said Malcolm, though your scrutiny of the terms used for batting has led me to picture the Caped Crusaders standing at the crease! 🤣 Batsman and Batswoman
