And we should have been nowhere near them either. And Ross Stewart was a bullet dodged. Current top 5 scorers Borja Sainz - free Josh Maja - free Vakoun Bayo - loan but signed for Watford in 2022 for 5m Haji Wright - 8m Joel Piroe - bought into the Championship for a million sold to Leeds for 10 and he ain’t worth that. So proves my point. 3/5 bought into this league for a combined million quid. Joel Piroe going for £10m disproves your point completely How is £10m the same as £3m? Absurd No it doesn’t. He was bought for a million quid and that’s what we should be doing. He’s not worth 10m he’s barely worth 5.

He keeps missing easy chances. That’s on him. Let's compare him to Maja then:
| Non-pen Goals
| Games
| Non-pen xG
| Shots
| On target
| xG on-taget
| Regular play chances
| Cannon | 3 | 11 | 4.90 | 27 | 13 | 5.33 | 11 | Maja | 8
| 15
| 8.25
| 34
| 14
| 8.59
| 27
|
I think he's doing alright, but isn't really getting the good (or "easy" as you call them) chances. Only 11 chances from open play is 1 per game. Maja has double that, and better chances as both xG and "xG on target" is higher. Your excuse for Maja when he was here is the same for Cannon, he's still getting his match sharpness up. But he should be scoring more, and I think he will in time. Cannon is getting worse the longer it’s going.

Seven goals in thirteen appearances. Better than one in two. Goals from the penalty spot and free kicks still count as a goal the last time I checked. So long as he’s getting into positions to score then he’s going to be the first Stoke player in a long, long time to get 20+ in a season. I never used to count penalties because they should be scored 🤣 He just looks shite. More than happy for him to look shite if he’s scoring at better than one in two.

Exactly , it just means that scouts and recruitment need to do their job properly. I think that is easy to say. The world has changed and changed utterly. The days of signing a Kevin Keegan or Phil Neal for buttons is long gone. We now have players from all over the world playing in the Premier League. I doubt if there is a player of any consequence anywhere in the world that someone doesn't have a dossier on.So forget about signing cheap gems. Players are being snapped up by Clubs when they are as young as 14, when the most that can be said about a player is that he is promising. For God's sake ,you don't even know what height he will reach at 14. It is now very difficult for any club to develop and profit from a young talent. He will either be poached or you will receive a small fee or else he will leave on a Free. It is very noticeable that a lot of European Clubs are now having to lower the price that they are seeking to move players on. Even Brighton aren't getting cheap players. Brighton get players that are relatively cheap. They sign them for 10-20m and sell them for 30-40m. We need to get players for 0-4m and sell them for 5-10+m. We shouldn’t be signing anyone over that sort of range.

He can score twenty goals from free kicks or penalties for me. It’s still counts as far as I’m aware. He’s made 13 appearances and aswell as scoring twice in open play against Portsmouth, he also scored in open play away at Premier League Southampton in the cup.

He’s also got the quality to be possibly our best finisher since relegation. Admittedly that’s about as low a bar as it’s possible to set.

Running a lot and taking penalties doesn’t equate to a 10m pound striker.

Sorry most normal supporters haven’t seen enough. You on the other hand usually have your mind made up before a player has even put on the shirt.

"get players for 0-4m and sell them for 5-10+" if only it was that easy. Ryan Mmaee Niall Ennis Wesley Dwight Gayle Sam Surridge All signed within that range and how many are we going to get £5m+ for? And even Maja that you have used as an example didn't do enough when he was here. You need players that fit in the team and score goals. If cannon continues to score then £10m is worth signing a young player that will improve. I agree with the model you are suggesting but Brighton for example sign these cheap players usually as squad players that they can hopefully improve. You need a solid striker first and then you can take risks on cheaper players that could come in to the squad when required. I think that is easy to say. The world has changed and changed utterly. The days of signing a Kevin Keegan or Phil Neal for buttons is long gone. We now have players from all over the world playing in the Premier League. Running a lot and taking penalties doesn’t equate to a 10m pound striker. Campbell was a lazy footballer who was given chance after chance at Stoke but always reverted to putting on weight/ not being fit because of his own lack of self motivation. So much so we gave him away. He's gone to Sheff. A new start, got fit but give it 6 months. He will never play Premier league

Cannon is getting worse the longer it’s going. Ummmmmm…… This is aging well… pretty sure that the majority of the penalties that Cannon has scored he earned himself, as well. Does that count as an assist & a goal? 😉

Cannon will not be signed by Stoke, or any other championship club in my opinion (altho I'm often wrong) he will replace Vardey when he retires from Leicester City. If that's at the end of this season maybe that's who will be spearheading our attack. Stranger things have happened.
