Never realised how long he’d bummed around in the lower divisions before joining us. Just a bang average journeyman footballer really. £8m he cost us! 🤦♂️ Was it really that much? I don’t know why he gets the stick he does. I think there were times when he was very effective, and his goals kept us up that one year. Sad to see he’s fallen to conference level after he’d played championship last season with Rotherham, and did ok in that game against us. Credit to him - he clearly wants to play. He should be excellent at that level. Of all the players we have had since we were relegated he has made a far more significant contribution than others. I’m not saying he was a world beater, but he’s nowhere near as bad as many make him out to have been. A perfectly capable player. Just with the backbone of a worm. Hence why he’s fallen down the divisions at such impressive pace (possibly the only time Sam Clucas will ever do anything with frightening pace). |

For all Clucas' detractors it's perhaps worth reminding that he was voted Player of the Year while at Stoke. Can't remember which year, but he was. So was James McClean and he was both wank and a tremendous bellend. And both deserved their awards That's how poor we have been |

There was one moment during that match where McClean got into space near the corner flag and, instead of putting in a cross, just twatted the ball as hard as he could into the advertising hoardings straight in front of him. I think that was the exact moment my optimism for Stoke City disappeared in a cloud of smoke. |

The problem he had, and the same with McLean who had a similar sort of record whilst playing for us was that he was overpriced for what he was. He was a decent Championship player but nothing more than that and didn't have the attributes we needed at the time. Considering the resources we had at our disposal in the first season after relegation, we should have been able to get better and his reputation suffered from that. Overall he was alright just underachieved compared with what we paid for him. 2020 Clucas would definitely improve our team now. |

I think Clucas walked on the pitch with a swagger that made him look arrogant, and sometimes he was, but he made significant contributions both defensively, covering for Tymon when he was caught upfield, and with his freekick specialities which gave us a few goals when we needed them the most. But after his best season he was unlucky with injuries, and was never fit long enough to get back to that rich vein of form that incidently made him one of the few successes of the Nathan Jones era.

I have never irrationally disliked a player as much as I do Sam Clucas. Tom Ince for me in more recent times. Honestly can't stand him. My grandad used to absolutely despise Clive Clarke for some reason, when he was one of my favourite players, equally bizarrely I suppose  I remember there being a lot of our supporters having it in for Clarke which I used to find strange as I liked him as a player. I suppose we all see the game differently. As for Clucas he was brilliant in our annual two games against Swansea, other than that he was shite. |
