They were saying what a good game he's had tonight. I don't agree, Dixon has his shirt pulled a second before Smith gives a penalty for a marginal foul on the same player. Misses a foul on Junior that was out of control and dangerous then gives Junior a yellow. Contact on Million in their box which I've seen penalties given for less. Junior kept off the pitch longer than 30 seconds and they score from the space that would have been covered had he been allowed on in time. Games like tonight are decided on narrow margins and the ref was involved in a few of those decisions that decided the match tonight. Gouranga.

Awful awful ref. Totally one sided, shockingly for the PL team against the championship one.
Piss off to the PL!

Which one. In my book neither were. Dixon had his shirt yanked prior to the challenge so a foul on him and manhoef fell over

Oh and giving Junior and Armstrong the same card? Armstrong looked like a coked up Ben Pearson! Should've been sent off and banned for a couple of matches

Junior was nudged in the back when trying to head the ball that went for the corner they scored off....right in front of the ref and he ignored it.

Absolutely dreadful, as the refs are near enough every week. It’s getting embarrassing now

Utter wank their penny foul on Dixon and we should of had 2 koumas could of gone down but didn't and ramsdale wiped out million on the goal line clearance and was also being pulled back, as for his decisions everything to the prem team bit like the league game against them at the 365 last season..

Absolutely shite.
The worst one was the foul on Tchamadeu he "missed" you could see from the away end he'd caught him......

He was shocking. Their penalty was a joke, and some of the fouls he gave against us made me wonder how on earth our players were supposed to challenge for the ball without giving away a free kick.

He was fucking shit, peno should have been a free kick to us, he was trying to take Dixsons shirt off before any contact, the jr coming together should have been a free kick to us yet the cunt that went I. Didn’t get carded. Overall though we lost cos our managers tactics were shite

Not good by any means. The foul count alone highlights the home bias. The foul on Junior was terrible and merited at least yellow and maybe, if there could have been a VAR check, probably would have been changed to red. Then booking Armstrong and not the original sinner was ridiculous. But, as the previous poster said, not the reason we lost. It's very difficult to win a football match when what seemed like about 95% (or more) of it is played in your own half.

Was there no VAR tonight? I thought it was used in the cup if available as it must be at St Mary's.

Said in the match thread that I thought he was doing his best for Southampton. Post game , no reason to change my opinion. He was pretty one sided in the majority of his decisions. 50:50 calls all went for the home side.

I assumed that it was all part of the deal that keeps the competition going i.e PL clubs get to enter it at whatever round they feel like and refs do everything they can to keep them in it.

Ugh, this is totally going to become the official Lewis Smith megathread, isn't it? Brace yourselves for this thread to reappear in six months with a post like 'refereeing the U21s later today'.

He was shockingly bias and is an absolute cunt. A different ref and with Viktor in the nets,we’d have gone through.

Didn't think the ball was out for the corner for their first goal either Yep absolutely shit house homer ref but you are correct - I was bang on the goal line and the Lino wasn't even up with play and guessed that it had gone for a corner. it was less over the line than our nearly goal

That tackle on Jr,how he didnt even give a yellow card,it could have caused a bad injury.

The penalty he gave to them should have been a free kick to Stoke. The Soton player almost rips Dixon's shirt off his back before he went down. Bloody awful homer decision.
