Denis Smith and Mike Pejic were proper hard men. Bluto could more than hold his own. Spot on and you can add Big John Ritchie & Micky Bernard from that era....Glen Whelan more recently

Mike Pejic, hard personified. A hard player, a hard Taekwondo fighter, a hard listen. Hard.

Every team in the Waddington era had more than one ‘ard men. Stoke had Smith and Pejic. Leeds had three nasty buggers Bremner, Giles, and Norman “bites yer leg” Hunter. Aresenal had the worst of the worse: Peter Storey was a nasty bastard who was sent to prison after retirement for involvement in organised crime, Ian Ure was even worse than Storey it was well known he couldn’t play football and just in the side for his thuggery.
it was amazing how small skinny players like Terry Conroy and George Eastham survived without serious injury. They were both extremely nibble and had a tremendous ability to jump over goons.

Was watching the 79 and 80 European cup games the other week. Hard to believe how slow the game was compared to today. A team like Malmo who made the final wouldn't get through a group now, not a chance

Maybe the softer landings on the mud heaps played on at that time helped.
