They had 3/4 great chances, Lorders. Looked like we were going to eat them then but they changed it got the ball to the 2 wide men and caused us massive problems They did Should have on something like 6 2 The 3 missed sitters in the second half were astonishing, you don't normally get one miss like that never mind 3 Yep Needed that second then think we would have won easily .

Regardless just watched the post match interview online and more than anything else, there was a smile on his face like he has just had the best day of his life and enjoyed managing Stoke City. Even if it was for just one game.
Legend.

He says managing the team tonight is the highlight of his career. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-fleetwood-live-stream-9559344"Take the penalties out of it and I thought it was a terrific performance with loads of young lads. Sol was top class, Jaden had a bit of a wobble first half but came back in the second, the loan lads looked class. It was a little bit of a mixture of experience with JT and Rosey and add in the youth and I thought it was quite exciting. On transitions we looked slightly vulnerable but I enjoyed watching us and that was my takeaway. I enjoyed watching us!" "Joel Dawson, our sports scientist, decided the minutes and Enda was restricted and Rose was supposed to be restricted but felt good so we continued with him. I thought Enda looked pretty good and it was good for him to get some minutes. It was good for that and to get into the next round." What was it like on the side when those penalties were being taken?Shawcross: "Penalties can go one way or another but I was just happy with how we played and how they took the information I asked. In such a short timeframe they took on what I asked. I've seen that in the play and how we defended, that's a positive. When I spoke to them I said, 'You've played really well, take that confidence, trust your technique and the two young lads' penalties were brilliant." Three good saves from Viktor Johansson to win it?Shawcross: "Daz the goalkeeping coach was very confident he'd do well. I didn't think he'd save as many penalties as that or that the penalties would be that poor but he was very confident." It showed some character from Jaden Dixon to play like that in the second half after being tested in the first?Schumacher: "I think that's development. The easy thing would have been for me to take him off at half-time but I chose to talk to him in a stern way and said we needed better.. Knowing J as I do, I can do that. Second half he looked like a player. He's playing out of position and we have to remember that and for him to go from that half to that half like that shows what he's got." Sol Sidibe produced perhaps his best performance so far for the first team?Shawcross: "Sol has been brilliant. We played Man Utd 21s a few weeks ago and we lost 4-1 but he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. That was a similar sort of performance. I spoke to him before the game and said the easiest thing after a poor performance against Oxford was to not play him but I think with young lads you have to give them a chance, you can't just say, 'One game, if you're not good, you're out the team.' You have to be consistent. I thought we could give him the opportunity tonight to show what he's good at and he was top class. He's an England youth international, as is Jaden, and these are the players that the club should be built around." For all that Stoke seemed in control, it must have been very frustrating to concede an equaliser from a corner in the 90th minute?Shawcross: "There was a slight soft underbelly from crosses and transitions. Charlie had got them in a decent shape and when we didn't get our transitions right, they broke on us and got in crosses that we didn't defend that well. That was a danger, especially in the first half. But we've had 12 hours to work with them and I was able to watch one Fleetwood game. It was difficult to hammer the lads too much and as an overall performance I thought it was top class." A big night for you personally to lead Stoke out as manager - it must mean a lot?Shawcross: "I just said that I think it tops what I've done in my career as a player. This is the highlight of my footballing career. I've loved every moment, from the moment Walts told me I was in charge, the decision making, having the authority to make decisions, I've loved every bit of it. I liked that the lads were receptive of what I was saying and I thought they put in a really good performance." New manager coming in, what kind of changing room is he coming in to?Shawcross: "It's a young dressing room with elements of experience and loads and loads of talent. There is a slight soft underbelly that you can address with time and tactics and training harder. You could look at transitions in this game and in previous games. It's the Championship, you have understand it and sometimes you have to be dogged. We have got some fantastic players but there are games like Millwall away when you have to be hard to beat. That's my takeaway from my short time with them. There are some amazing players but you have to understand game management, understand the Championship." This has sometimes seemed like an impossible job - it's not, is it?Shawcross: "Knowing the club, it's a great club and it's got some really good players. Someone will get it right eventually and we'll do some special things here. I hope that will be the new manager and we'll give him our full support with the hope and intention that he'll do that. All you can do is wait and see what happens. If it's who is being reported, it'll be interesting to see what ideas he brings in but ultimately it's a really good squad with really good players and also the academy is producing some top players. There are lots of positives he'll come into." You sound like you're really enjoying your time with the under-21s at the moment and this must have also whetted your appetite to be a manager?Shawcross: "That's where I want to go. I started my journey at 25 and started getting coaching badges and I was 32 when I got my pro licence. I've done a lot of work behind the scenes to get to this point. Walts doesn't just make you head coach of Stoke City for a game, you have to have done something and I've put a lot of hard work in and that will continue. I want to be a manager and I want that as quickly as possible but I'm at a great club, I've got a 21s role which gives me the opportunity to practise, understand players, get better and develop myself. An opportunity like this amazing for me and my CV and with the link I've got wiht the club, it's a great place to be." Have you spoken to Charlie?Shawcross: "I spoke to him before the game, I spoke to him after the game, I get on really well with Charlie and he's doing a great job - and I wanted to win even more so because it was Charlie. I knew it would be tough and he's doing a great job but I wanted to win." What a hero. I thought he was a great figure on the touchline. Most caretakers are very passive, but he was really hands on. Reminded me of a certain former manager.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that Shawcross might take up the managerial reigns for more than tonight’s game? Certainly ticks the old boys Jonny Walter’s club box. He's not ready. His tactics tonight were not good.

His tactics tonight were not good. Adam stuck Phoenix on Dixon, Shawcross didn't counteract it. Nearly cost us the game .

I feel bad for what I said on the first page now! I don’t mean that he’s not a bona fide SCFC legend, just that I don’t think it’s time for him to manage us yet, not by a long stretch. The fact he’s so proud of it is very touching and typical of the bloke.

His analysis of games is top drawer. Exactly what I thought. Rather than the clichés usually offered up in these interviews he spoke eloquently and intelligently. I have rarely heard a manager analyse a game like that straight after a match.

Loved the way he engaged with it all tonight.

I also liked the way he handled Dixon and wasn't afraid to say he'd had a bad first half but instead of giving him the excuse of age and inexperience said he'd told him he was better than that and to go out and show it. Great man management and got the pleasure of seeing a vast improvement in the second half. After last night I can't see why people were saying last week that Shawcross is a terrible coach.

As you know, Ryan coached my lad for six months. He was great, and if he'd have been someone who wasn't a Stoke legend I'd have said the same. The sessions were really good.
Ryan is a lot cleverer and insightful than some give him credit for. He has worked hard to get his badges....it's not about who you are. The application process is thorough and demanding and I know first hand how prepared and diligent he was.
He'll manage a club soon and as he's one if the soundest blokes you could meet, I wish him all the best and know he'll be successful if hard work counts for anything.
Stoke City legend.
