Ah that age old phrase, turning the corner.
Wonder when we will find it again?
23 years last time.
6 and counting so far, and that elusive corner is always several steps ahead of us.
To quote Red from The Shawshank Redemption, 'I hope to see the premier league again, i hope'

I think we are close squad wise as we have been for a while.
We currently have a manager who's very good.. but thinks he's Pep at times and does tactics which we shouldn't even be attempting.

We are like someone walking down a footpath, coming to a corner. Turning the corner and finding yourself at the start of the footpath you've just left behind.

Looking at the likes of Leeds, Burnley, Sheffield Utd, and maybe 3 other teams, we are miles off. Many Miles off. When we got relegated, there was a fair chance of an immediate return. Unfortunately our choice of manager and player purchases sealed our fate for the next 10-15 years. Premiership football is a pipe dream for this club as it currently stands. We got schooled by a novice manager and Division One outfit Today. This has become the norm for our club. Forget the corner. We won't be turning it any time soon.

We're closer to League One than we are the Premier League. Plenty of work still needed.
I'm all for optimism but I find the level of back-patting coming out of the club to be annoying given we've not actually achieved anything of note on the pitch as yet.

Plenty to look forward to

To quote Red from The Shawshank Redemption, 'I hope to see the premier league again, i hope' I gave up on the prem the day we went down .And said so on that day.. Thanks to TP for getting us there..but we will never find another TP.. 7 years and counting. If it happens don't think I will be here to see it. Sad. But true At least Red got to see the sea in Shawshank Redemption....

We’re wank but we’re not “a million miles away” because almost no team in this division is a million miles away from promotion.
You don’t have to turn a corner, you just have to have a decent coach with a vision who can turn a squad of wank-to-okay players into a playoff team. Happens pretty much every year.

I agree with you mate, there’s a lot of this sort of chat regarding the end of last season and the business we’ve done over the summer but the facts are, we had to have a good run at the end of last season as we were in real danger of going down. We were in that position because we had an absolutely shambolic set of results shortly after the manager came in. While it was a positive we managed to drag ourselves clear, let’s not get things twisted and start talking like we won the champions league. What i also find strange is this chat about what a young exciting squad we have and how thats going to set us up for success in future seasons…..but three of the key players in the team in Cannon, Moran and Koumas, are on loan and likely won’t be here next season. I don’t really see how they will play into our success moving forward and I find that narrative coming out of the club to be quite false and similar to the above point where we are spinning the facts in our favour and basically talking shite. We have a really long way to go to be challenging for the top 6. We can’t keep going from season to season with such a huge turnover of players. Something within the club isn’t right, can’t put my finger on what it is but the results tell you the story. Really hope this current set of players and management team are the right people to put it right but my gut tells me we are in for a scrap this season

The alternative to loan players is we sign players on 3/4 year deals who are either shite / injured or both on massive wages and we are stuck with them. We all know who I am talking about. Many examples out there. And have to satisfy our impatient fans and FFP criteria..
Most fans are at the end of their tether or even broke it..
Too many new messiahs who turned out to be jokers on massive wages.. managers and players..

It’s just like Groundhog Day. Given up counting the number of turned corners or false dawns…..same old outcome. Thing is, it’s not like we can say these outcomes are even close to a playoff place…..any possibility of good times leads us to mid to lower table mediocrity at best, but more commonly sees us looking over our shoulder. It’s just so predictable and depressing. I really don’t know what the answer is.

Hull is a massive game now.
3 wins from from 6 isn’t the worst start.
But 4 defeats from 6 and SS would have to be getting worried for his position.

I’d take staying up this season and we can ‘reset’ again in 2025. We’ve got some good young players with potential, but young players bring inconsistency and no experience which goes along way in this league.
Laurent and baker shouldn’t have been sold and from what I’ve seen so far the team yesterday isn’t stronger than the one that beat Southampton and Bristol at the end of last season.
But on another day we win 1-0 yesterday it’s that kind of league. But 3 goals in 5 is worrying and our lack of experience worries me.
Time will tell….

We can recruit from the lower leagues, and there are plenty of examples recently of teams who’ve done this successfully, Ipswich are a good one. There are some very very good players in the League below, it’s about being able to spot them and then mould them into Championship players. At the very least, they should have the workrate and commitment you need in this league because for many of them playing for us would be a big step in their career. I’d be looking for players of that sort of profile if it was me, both here and abroad. Loan players do have a role too though, not denying that
