I just can’t enjoy listening to football on the radio. Well not Stoke anyway. Maybe it’s the shit commentators we’ve had? Nige didn’t paint a picture of what was actually going on. Maybe I care too much and don’t like knowing exactly what’s going on? Some of the better commentators on five live engage me. But it’s very rare. Anyway… I think it’s because you care too much….

Sohail is doing the CBS Sports TV commentary for today's game.

I liked Sohail and just genuinely wondering what happened to him this season?!? Did he send some rude text messages to a female production worker or something?
Just what actually happened to him?
Simon Humphreys is ok but preferred Sohail

Simon Humphreys is ok but preferred Sohail "I'd love to see your fanny flapping around like the flags on top of the stand as the traffic slowly moves down the D-Road. Wear something kinky tonight - I'll be joined by Stoke legend Mike Pejic and we'll have just eaten some lovely chocolate eclairs given to us by a nice old lady in the row in front."

"And we kick off. Here I am in the ground, looking at the pitch. There are a few birds flying overhead, perhaps a seagull and two pigeons. One of the pigeons looks like it's got a gammy wing, possibly from getting in a fight with another pigeon, perhaps over a handful of breadcrumbs thrown by an elderly widow at the local pond. The wind is blowing in a North-North-Easterly direction, bringing with it a carrier bag, a plain white plastic affair usually given with purchases of bread and milk, potentially thick-cut-half-and-half and semi-skimmed, respectively.
Below me I can count some seats, erstwhile azure blue in tone, but weathered by time and the elements so that speckles of white, and indeed, a paler blue, can be spotted by the attentive eye.
The smells of pies and chips tantalise the senses, making this reporter wish he could leave his station to fulfil his peckish desires.
To the left I hear an elderly man hacking a lung full of sputum into a stained, ragged hanky. It looks disgusting but that adds to the pathos one feels for the wizened and decrepit old skeleton. Maybe he has flu- one hopes that over what could be COPD or heaven forbid, worse.
And the referee blows for full time in what will be remembered as an all time classic, 6-4 result.
I've been Sohail."

Has Sohail's absence been explained yet? Is he definitely no longer involved? The last I read Grapey is that he’ll be back from the Oxford away match , but who knows!? Rob Adcocks first match back from Olympic duties is the Oxford away game so sure we'll definitely know then or have an idea what's happening going forwards. On the subject of presenters, saw John Acres arriving at Home Park today, he was up in the press box, not sure if working or just watching his team. His lads a big Stoke fan so will have the bragging rights tonight! 😉🤣

This time last year Sohail came with a fanfare of being the new voice of Stoke City. A year later after significant improvement and towards the end of the season the beginnings of genuine affinity with the club he rocks up on Sky each week whilst Radio Stoke shuffle the deck of commentators and there is quite literally radio silence. It’s really quite poor.

Had to go out and listened to 2nd half on the radio
Thought Simon Humphries was excellent
Kept up with the game and gave good account of what was going on without the waffling Sohail used to do
Simon sounded like he was from the Nigel Johnson school of commentary

Yeah I watched the CBS Stream and didn't mind him at all. He doesn't seem to have an obsession with filling every second of play with commentary and lets you just watch the action from time to time. Of course, everything looks and sounds better when we win. I never had the inevitable feeling that Plymouth was going to score either, didn't find it as nerve-wracking as one of our "standard" 1-0 wins.

If you are watching the game with his commentary, it's OKish. If you're just listening he can't paint the picture of where the ball is, what's happening generally on the pitch etc. Made up example of what he sounds like. Stoke get us underway at the bet365 kicking away from the booth on end at this famous old ground. That's gone out for a goal kick. Stoke win the throw in (flags, A50). Shot fails to trouble the keeper. Mike? Wilmot takes the free kick 10 yards outside of his box. And it's in after a scramble on the line etc etc.

Sohail hasnt left the BBC at all, hes covering the Chelsea v Palace match this afternoon for BBC 5 Live.. Sohails Freelance as a fair few radio journalists are, he can work for who he wants when he wants. Guess as we all would do, if work comes in you'll go for the most attractive proposition & whichever pays you the best. Nice position to be in to be fair.

John Acres made me smile during a handover back to Mark Chapman on 5 Live yesterday: “Plymouth Argyle versus Stoke City - it’s the fixture they call the John Acres derby because I’ve worked for both local radio stations! And when I say ‘they’ I obviously mean me”.
