Sounds like Simon Humphries has got the job Look out for Nathan Baker It's a shame if he has been binned - what will the army of hitherto undiscovered broadcasting talents do if they're unable to critique his every utterance on that massive, tiresome thread? If he was binned it was because he was wank overall mate. Got better towards end of season but on the whole he talked more about flags, wind, seagulls and fools n horses more than he did about the game. Probably a lovely bloke but a wank commentator he most certainly was.

I was wondering this too, it’s a shame if so, I thought he was pretty good by the end of the season.
he was toss , he's never a Radio commentator he never explained where the ball was on the pitch just kept asking the other commentators what they thought

Not a go at Sohail but that first half commentary was so much better. Don’t think he mentioned anything other than what was actually happening on the pitch which is refreshing He's old school who learnt to actually explain to someone listening only where and what's going on, that's the difference between a radio commentary and tv

Shame as he seems a lovely guy and was obviously trying and did get better but if you’ve got Simon Humphries waiting in the wings it’s a no brainer. Wonder if he’s taken Cranson and Zakuani down with him🤔 Of course he could just be on his jollies

Be interesting to hear what callas12 has to say about it Well I know Rob Adcocks in Paris working on the Olympics still but honestly not sure why Sohail wasn't on commentary duties for today's match. I was of the understanding Sohail was lined up for covering Stoke matches this season (He spoke to Lucas Yeomans about coming back during close season also) so can only presume it's down to illness or other personal reasons, but really not sure of the reason.

As nice a bloke as he undoubtedly was, I hope never to hear his dulcet tones on the airways again. As a previous poster said, he really isn’t very good.

Oh well, my small hope of listening again has vanished if he's not officially left. AS previous folk say, sure he's likely a decent chap but he really doesn't know how to commentate for Radio and I'm afraid that's how, via the Official site, I've kept in touch all these years. I suppose now there are more opportunities to watch with the Sky deal which is good but we really shouldn't have had foisted on us listeners a person unable to describe the match action. I'm sure there are many other listeners who for other reasons rely on good radio commentary. If nothing else, he should've taken the criticism on board and attempted to learn how to do the job. hey ho!

Possibly Sohail has agreed a contract with Sky for this season alongside his Radio Stoke work? After all Sky are going to need a lot of commentators to cover all their matches! Maybe it’s been agreed when Sky have a bumper programme on (like today)Sohail works with Sky on those days. I’d be surprised if he’s still doing a column in the matchday programme if he’s not doing the commentary at all!

I listened to 20 mins of the second half (including our goal) in the car yesterday and from that 20 mins can already say the lad who commentated yesterday was MILES better than Sohail.

Simon Humphries has been doing all the pre season commentary for Stoke prior to yesterday’s game. For me it’s a win win for RS, he has a big interest in local football and probably a better replacement for Nigel Johnson?
Listening to his interview with SS yesterday, they appeared to have a good chemistry and wasn’t afraid to ask questions about the ins and outs of the club.
Matt Sandoz I believe is the sports editor for RS, and was good to hear him back on coverage. A Stoke fan as well as I was in his College class back in the late 90’s.

Is Sohail a Stoke fan? He is even worse than Nigel at mixing up players, even when they have different skin colours! Must admit I haven't been very impressed by him so far.

No he came in as someone who was seen good for the role, which is probably not the best choice by RS? However neither was John Acres but I think he became more knowledgeable because of moving to the area etc? Sohail seemed a more corporate choice at the time?

Still has his column in today’s programme, so if he has gone must have been a late decision. Column still annoyingly called “And Smith must score” - doesn’t he realise that this quote relates to the Brighton striker and not Denis Smith!! Name of the Brighton fanzine back in the day ..not sure if still going Many forget that poor old Gordon Smith did actually score that day as well Sohail was ok...just the latest target of some. NJ got the same

NJ got the same Sohail's problem was always that he was giving a TV commentary on the radio. The 2 things are completely different. On the TV the viewer can see which team is in possession and where the ball is whereas the listener has to be told both of those. If the same commentary is being used for both streaming and radio, then the commentary should still be a "radio" commentary. Unfortunately Sohail never really seemed to come to terms with that distinction.

I was pleasantly surprised that we had a commentator yesterday who focussed on the game, not the colour of the head coach's clothes, birds flying by, cars on the D-road, what he had for breakfast etc.
They badly misjudged the replacement of Nige. Let's hope they have now corrected that error.
