Really poor today, couldn't see what on earth we were trying to do for the first 60 minutes. No midfield presence whatsoever, nothing up top and even weak at the back as well. Unless we get some quality in through the door sharpish I can't see us improving on last season. Any positives at all? Bae and Manhoef did well second half, and SS noticed out setbacks in the first half and went more direct in the last 30 minutes, which definitely helped. Should really have scored with the chances we had. Clear as day where the areas are we need to strengthen though, unfortunately for us it's still that spine of the pitch.

Love reactions to friendlies. Some soppy knickers out tonight. Imagine judging a season on a training exercise. I don't particularly care much for the scoreline, just want to see the effort and intensity in there and some clear structure to our patterns of play - otherwise what's the point?

What a waste of an afternoon. I'm worried that a lot of fans think that slotting in a striker is the cure to our ills. Our midfield continues to be a bomb site. It needs serious surgery. We need a centre back too. Rose out for two and a half months, throw in another pre-season which he will need after that, and we won't see anything meaningful from him this side of Christmas. As for the midfield Pearson is crocked too so I doubt we can sell him to free up any cash to strengthen in that area. It all looks a bit of a mess to be honest.

I'm not sure if i'd describe it as a mess just yet. A mess for me would be if we're here in September. It's far from ideal being in a position where we have to use part of our budget to rush through a deal for a centre half to cover injury....needing to ideally shift Baker, Laurent and Johnson for a midfield overhaul and a need for one if not two strikers.....before you probably admit we need to get a right back in to play the inverted role and again ideally a genuine leg beater in at left wing. That's a lot and i'm convinced we won't do it all.

I have a firestick, how do I get IPTV on it? Probably best to look for ads on FB. I got mine off a bloke who was trying to sell fully loaded firesticks on marketplace (I didn't buy a stick off him just a subscription). There used to be a poster on here who got you access to a very good one my Son has it but it's about twice as much. I wanted to swap to that but couldn't raise him. Sorry but can't pass on my suppliers details, I'm sure you know why. thanks for that, I understand.

We've finished in the bottom half of the Championship for 6 seasons running. I'm looking for evidence and signs that this season will be different. On the basis of the last 2 performances, I'm struggling.

Funny how the last two performances and a lack of transfer activity have led to Questions over Jared's departure, we need X players, but for me one thing which is already stark is
1) we look vulnerable on defending set pieces (we looked really good at this towards the end of the season)
2) we don't look much of a threat scoring off set pieces.
This may be something we work on later in pre season who knows? It confirms to me what a good coach Gally was. We really saw improvement when we was allocated set pieces.

We weren't too bad in the second half and really should have won comfortably, but we are crying out loud for a regular goal scorer. We created at least six very good chances without anybody being able to put the ball in the net. Especially Burger had big chances, but it loooked like he had put the boots on the wrong foot. Anyway, we at least created chances. Leris didn't look comfortable at all in the right back position and Dixon had a couple of scary moments at central defence as well. I honestly don't think Lowe ever will play regularly at Championship level. He looks way too slow and doesn't seem to have other skills to compensate for that either. Vidigal at least seems able to get into good positions in front of goal in every game. He didn't convert, but at least finding those spaces is something.
......................Johansson..................... Tchamadeu.........New..........Gibson.........Bocat ..............Sidibe............Burger.............. Manhoef................Junho...................Vidigal or new ........................New..........................
Still at least 2-3 players away from a team able to compete for a top half place I think.
Baker, Johnson and Leris need to be offloaded as they don't bring much to the team. I also think Lowe and Tezgel should go out on loan as they both are far from ready, and I'm not sure they'll ever be to be honest.

That’s kind of why I was pretty surprised when we binned Gally. I wasn’t a fan of his caretaker games and didn’t think our set pieces looked that good particularly corners but I saw Schu giving an interview and he was complimentary, pointing out stats had us high up for set piece goals scored and crediting Gally. Quite a feat for a team that scored hardly any goals for most of the season. No qualms at all about binning him due to my own opinion that he wasn’t all that but what was it all about? JW cleaning house??

I completely agree about Lowe and Tezgel being a mile off ready but just don’t understand your conclusions on them. The main reason they aren’t ready is because they aren’t physically developed enough to play men’s football at this level ( no pace to compensate). Of course they’ll bulk up as their bodies develop it’s not like it’s something they might not be able to get the hang of. I do think they could be a much longer project than many expect as in it would be no major shock to me if they weren’t ready for this level for 3 years.

Lowe looks awfully slow, but is already a big unit. Still he hardly gets into good positions or win headers. I can't see him being good enough, but hope I'm wrong, won't be the first time though! Tezgel seems good on the ball, but again no pace and far from mobile enough. I certainly think he can take it further than Lowe, but then as an attacking midfielder. He really seems too slow and small to be the answer up front. Another worrying thing about Tezgel is all his injuries already at such a young age.

Lowe is taller but the last thing I’d think of describing him as is a big unit. They both need to fill out a lot. If they’re going to make it, their primary non technical attribute is going to have to be strength because as you rightly point out it certainly isn’t going to be pace in either case.

You kind of hope they’d done something about it but as soon as we come up against even lower league opposition hey presto it’s back again.

The Bolton game I think will be a better gauge of where we are at, as by the sounds of it, SS will be fielding what will be pretty close to the strongest starting 11, minus the number 9 which you would hope would be signed before the start of the season.
