Anyone else think the idea of having multiple nations hosting the Euros and World Cup is pretty tragic?
One of the great things about a single nation hosting a major tournament is that it's a celebration of that particular country. A celebration of a nation's vibrancy, culture, football team and history. And for the travelling fan, it's an opportunity to experience that.
This idea of handing 3 (or in the case of 2030, 6!) countries the tournament strips out so much of the beauty of having a host nation. Let alone logistically, it's idiotic - But then again, when have Fifa cared about the average football fan.
With the exception of Saudi Arabia (obviously), having a whole bunch of countries hosting a tournament seems to be the way it's heading. With their increasingly demanding hosting criteria, Fifa have made it nigh on impossible for so many good, traditional footballing nations to submit successful bids.

I'm not against the UK having the World cup it would be amazing for Wales and Scotland ( perhaps even NI)
I think being English our views are different as we nearly aways qualify

I think there's a balance, and 6 is ridiculous. What joint hosting should do is give opportunities to countries who wouldn't be able to host a tournament otherwise, so Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay as a three in 2030 would've been fair enough rather than the "Anniversary match" rubbish. For the Euros, Poland and Ukraine, and before that Austria and Switzerland, made sense.
International tournaments expanding in size is just digging bigger holes, and there's talk of overexposure in "The state of football" thread on here.

The reason for it too is absolutely farcical- North America 2026 and then token games in South America and Africa along with Europe in 2030 opens up an Asian bid 2034. Oh look Saudi Arabia fancy a bit of sport washing and having a plastic World Cup like Qatar. If Scotland make the women’s one in 2027 would love go Brazil in contrast |

Totally agree with the post.
The character and personality of the specific host has historically been a major feature.
I can understand it between 2 smaller countries in closer proximity but not when it includes countries that could take it on themselves.
Could you imagine that in Olympics? would totally destroy the concept.
We all know in this case its been done for political reasons because of corruption.

The countries need to be geographically and culturally close together with no physical borders hampering the logistics for the fans and tournament logistics. So Belgium and the Netherlands and Austria and Switzerland in the past made sense. The upcoming UK wide Euros in 2028 makes sense because we're only a small island with no physical borders between the nations. To all intents and purposes we're one country from a logistical point of view and there were far bigger distances between venues in this German Euros than there will be in a UK tournament. But six completely separate countries with vast distances between them and hard borders is bizarre. Similar problems but to a lesser extent with 2026's North American World Cup. Can anyone see things going smoothly on the US-Mexico border?  |

Just read about the fine, which was €5k not €30k, but still crazy. Racist, homophobic and offensive chanting about disasters etc must be driven out of the game, but who does chanting "EUFA Mafia" offend? Additionally fining clubs is idiotic, heavier sanctions like suspension from competitions or ground closures would be much more effective. |
