Anyone know if there’s a specialist/consultant locally (within half hour of SOT) in ADHD? Gateway Psychology in Tunstall, mainly deal with children but will probably know where you could get help locally

Our adopted son who is now 13 years old has ADHD, and a few other issues besides. We were advised to move him from mainstream school twice, from two separate schools where he was a student at both for about two years. Mainly because mainstream schools are so driven by OFSTED to hit their targets, they don’t have the resources to deal with neuro-diversity children. We were fortunate enough to be able to get a diagnosis by going private, I genuinely feel so sorry for any parents who have to go to CHAMS to get support. CHAMS are under funded, under staffed and under stress.
Since getting his diagnosis we have been able to get him accepted to a school that is specifically trained to help these children. Within days he told us that he was no longer the odd one out in the classroom,as each child at the school have their own issues. As others who have issues have alluded to, our son is exceptionally bright intellectually, but socially awkward.
He has been prescribed medication to help him to keep focused at school, but each month trying to acquire his tablets can mean my wife and I trying numerous pharmacies to obtain his medication, there is a national shortage.
I have to admit that when I was at school, I like many of my peers, ridiculed classmates who, with the benefit of hindsight, may well have had issues of their own. Thankfully I am now wiser and we now live in a different world, where people who are Autistic, have ADHD or have other symptoms on the spectrum, are recognised and acknowledged for who they are as individuals and the vast majority of us are as understanding as we can be.
If any of you have children of your own who you believe need help but are struggling to access it, can I suggest you contact Gateway Psychology in Tunstall, they aren’t cheap and it may be difficult to get registered, but from our experience they are superb.
