And yet he's only been on the bench a couple of times for us, surely he must be close to getting some proper minutes off the bench then for us this season I don't think he's big enough. Good footballer. Small for a CB You don't necessarily have to be big to be a quality centre back, although I accept it does help. Admittedly a long time ago but one of the best centre backs we ever had was a really small guy, Maurice Setters.His size never impacted his ability to hold down the position. |

Yeah I agree, Cannavaro, Baresi, Stones do way to my logic but I just think you have to be exceptional to be smaller and dominate. |

They fail to realise that every club has budgetary restrictions, or the player himself might want to leave for various reasons etc. Ben Gibson is a solid pro at this level, will add balance being left footed and will add vast experience to a young dressing room. If he was our marquee centre half signing I'd be disappointed but he's almost certainly not going to be, so I don't get what's not to like. |

Over 30 years old is not like it was in the 80's and 90's
Players are in much better condition for longer these days. Besides, 31 for a centre back is about prime time in terms of positioning and understanding the game.

Yeah I agree, Cannavaro, Baresi, Stones do way to my logic but I just think you have to be exceptional to be smaller and dominate. Strength and jumping ability is more important than height. As long as you're good enough at jumping and timing headers while not being bullied off the ball, you'll crush tall CBs in the air. |

Flint's remembered for his poor performances against Huddersfield, Reading and Watford, but he had a few decent games as well namely QPR, Hull and Blackburn away. At the time because of injuries we were playing a back three of Fox-Flint-Wilmot/Taylor as well which doesn't exactly scream top quality......... |
