Reals, over 30s are world class footballers. Rolls royces. We sign fucking ford cortinas. Our record of late for over 30 is dog shit. They either dnt play because they are wank or bloody injured. Dnt mind one or two. Stevens, gibson and fielding. That will do. As long as they are mint condition Lotus Cortina's I don't see a problem, frankly. Lotus Cortina????!!!! Very flash!!! I'd settle for a mint condition Cortina L or GL if we're going flashy!

Only one problem, £90k for a mint one with only 94k miles on the clock. Problem with classic cars is you never take them out in the rain and use them very sparingly, they spend most of the time in the garage or in footballing parlance on the treatment table. Actually I’m not averse to a few older players if they are good enough, fit enough and cheap enough but I don’t want a lot of squad fillers, journeymen past their sell dates with no resale value on big fees or wages. I’ll sit on the fence for this one but what we really need in the defence is a bit of pace, let’s hope that materialises.

Looks like the pace will be the fullbacks Good quick centre backs are very rare in the Championship as such players are already in the Premier League

Apparently he was on 40 grand a week in Alan Partridge territory. What's he going to be looking for now? Obviously less but would we want to go above 10 for 2 years? I kind of hope not.

I never listen to speculation, even if we are told players are on the brink of signing. I don't believe it until they are registered. Ba, should have taught us a lesson.

Most people screaming as he is over 30 - absolute nonsense We were screaming out for some more older and experienced players last season Couple of points from me - 30 is hardly old, footballers play well into their 30s now And Real Madrid didn’t do too bad with players over 30 - considering if u read this board over 30s are not to be even looked at!! Honestly - this forum !!!! Reals, over 30s are world class footballers. Rolls royces. We sign fucking ford cortinas. Our record of late for over 30 is dog shit. They either dnt play because they are wank or bloody injured. Dnt mind one or two. Stevens, gibson and fielding. That will do. Our record for any age group is shit, that’s why we are always in the bottom 1/3 of the Championship.

It did that these things are often bullshit and even when they aren’t they don’t always happen (Loic Remy also). I don’t think that’s really a reason to avoid it, I think most people understand what speculation and rumour is. I don’t see that as a reason not to partake, I mean the deals that do happen are often more disappointing than the ones that don’t (Gayle, Wesley).

I was probably too young to be aware of transfer gossip whenever that was a rumour. I think I probably only recall him from Panini stickers ( Everton CF wasn’t he?). I could well have already been going to games but just didn’t have the same access to media as nowadays.

I remember seeing Loek Ursem had signed as a kid in a newspaper
I read it wrong as 500 k not 50
Was gobsmacked
I assumed we'd signed the new Johnny Rep for that money

He only made 82 first team appearances in his entire career, half of them with us, and now runs his own TV repair shop. My vague memory of him was that he was quite popular with Stoke fans without being anything other than average. It was all a long time ago though, so I'm happy to be corrected.

Can vaguely remember him. He wasn't spectacular but was only a kid, me not him. I remember reading that Spurs wanted Garth Crooks in a free newspaper.

Would have been good in the Rumbelows cup. Born just too early.

How did Garth get so posh? And long winded Still remember his 12 man England formation as a pundit and praising Chelsea for handling Delap's thrown in, Delap didn't actually play in the game he was talking about

How did Garth get so posh? I remember a commentator, possibly David Coleman, on FA Cup Final day (1981 or 82) mentioning Garth Crooks' lovely potteries accent, and thinking 'that ain't no potteries accent I've ever heard'.

He'd be my pick as the 5th choice, or Matt Baker but not seen enough of him 4 senior CB's please Baker or Okagabue is enough for 4th choice. Baker called up for the national squad.

I know Wales are hardly a top-level nation but it's still decent recognition given his age and that he's only really played some League Two football. Could he be close to a first team choice, anybody in the know?
