Does anyone seriously think clubs will pay 22 million for Plymouth players? Likely get good money for Whittacker. They rejected 11m from lazio in jan. only premier league clubs pay that kind of money , he’s not that standard at the moment

Mmaee was causing a problem as is well known as it happens Schumacher appears to have handled it perfectly and the player appears to have responded however it also appears the club didn't take into account Mmaee record of being a dick at other clubs Nothing unfair there, the person in charge of recruitment didn't do his job So you know the person in charge of recruitment didn’t offer balanced advice as to a players positives and negatives. I really hope we don’t make being a good egg a defining criteria in player recruitment. The facts speak for themselves we signed a player with record of dicking about he dicks about The man in charge of recruitment is sacked His replacement is making it clear character is going to be of paramount importance Providing we also keep doing the other stuff required, clever use of data, good scouts, good relationship with good agents and other clubs and all the other things to do then fine Summer will tell

Ollie Watkins only had one good scoring season before his £28 million sale to Villa. World has only got crazier since.

We aren’t going to be in contention for the very best players so we aren’t in a position to turn up our nose at the odd flawed genius who doesn’t always tow the line, doesn’t always train well but comes alive on the pitch when it’s for real. If Mmaee had shown any sign that he was worth the hassle I doubt very much it would ever have become a topic of conversation. He didn’t, he isn’t so fuck him off but don’t let it put you off from taking a similar gamble in the future the outcome could be transformative.

In my head, there had been a pretty even split of manager signings and Jared identified players last summer, but if you follow the money then it's interesting to see where our transfer fees mostly went:
Jared identified players
Burger - £4,400,000 MMaee - £3,520,000 Jun-ho Bae - £1,760,000 Nikola Jojic - £1,232,000 Andre Vidigal - £440,000 Million Manhoef - £3,400,000 Mehdi Leris - £2,100,000
Total - £16,852,000 (!)
Manager signings
Ben Pearson - £1,320,000 Lynden Gooch - £1,000,000 Junior Tchamadeu - £1,000,000 (?) Niall Ennis - £500,000
Total - £3,820,000
Although, of course, we don't know how much was spent bringing in the mostly manager-led free transfers:
Daniel Johnson Michael Rose Enda Stevens Wesley Ciaran Clark
Or the manager-led loans:
Chiquinho Luke Cundle Sead Haksabanovic Ki-Jana Hoever Daniel Iversen Luke McNally Mark Travers

I've heard convincing arguments for either pile. My initial thought is that last year's strategy was to let Jared and the scouts identify players with resale value to invest serious money in and to then let the manager use his contact book to plug the boring gaps with boring players. However, who knows how it shakes out once you put in signing on fees and wages. How would the Johnson deal compare to, say, Vidigal?

He was forced to train with the U12s at Milan for a reason then came out with the talk when we tried to block his move I had a very nice chat with Mark Hughes and his lovely daughter at MCR airport re a few players about 5 or 6 years ago and was just £ in Arnie's case. I do have the photo or didn't happen btw

IMO there's a chance of getting that cash back between Burger, Bae and Million. Mmae might be fixable, plus we haven't seen Jojic. I'm happy with the strategy.
