Dennis Pennis James Dreyfus Re Dennis Pennis (Paul Kay) Guardian interview with Steve Martin Martin hasn’t crossed paths with Kaye since then. Before I go, however, I mention that the line has come back to haunt Kaye: he has said it is now the one thing strangers say to him in the street. Hearing this, Martin tips back his head and lets out an almighty laugh, warm and rich, yet curiously lacking in schadenfreude. “I hold no grudges,” he says. “Things have gone well.”

Remember back in the 80s when you used to see the face of the announcer between TV programmes. Who was that bloke for Central Television? I can picture his face, in his late 40s / early 50s but had very silvery hair.

sometimes a person or a celebrity will have the right exposure at the right time and seize the moment
They are all over the TV, have vehicles created for them and then there is over exposure and backlash. If they are not hosting some shit game show, they are advertising shampoo or doing voice overs for car insurance on the radio.
Many on here (Hart, Wan, The Trinnys) fall into this category. Add Steve Jones to the list - from that period in the 1990s/early 2000s when Channel 4 thought the presenters were more important than the guests. I personally loved the actress from Peep Show but then she went A list overnight and hasnt been off our screens since. I hope she drops out of favour soon.
We had it in the 1970s -Evel Knievel. Virtually invented stunt cycle as a spectacle, jumped Harleys as well which were heavy and not that aerodynamic. In the 1980s, nobody wanted to know, and it was too early for the internet cult status and he was largely forgotten, expect by fanatics & toy collectors
