I think the majority do care and want to do well both for the club and their own career.
I do also think that it takes time to really bond with a club and unfortunately most of our players are hardly in the door.
We were spoiled by the likes of Whelan, Shawcross etc who gave us years of service and developed a genuine bond and affinity with the club.

Possibly the most passionate goal celebration have seen in years Odd way not to care Isn’t that the problem there’s more aggression in many of their goal celebrations than their play. Swans was a bad night and way too much made of it V West Brom and Weds we've come back in games we've looked out of. Obvious that the passion is there. We were bottom 3 ..'nailed on' to go down according to our annual relegation predictor. Have picked up points and put in the performances at Hull, Preston and Leeds despite defeat, Boro , West Brom at home. I don't think many predicted 2 months ago that we could be safe with 2 games to go if we get a result on Saturday. Not saying there aren't players on cushy numbers, there are at all clubs but thankfully we may see the back of them in the Summer. Be glad to see the back of this season of course

There's two bits for me.
Say you played for Stoke and went through the motions doing enough - is there anyone currently in the team who'd scare the living shit out of you who'd make you go 'all in' as wouldn't fancy their wrath in the changing room after? Don't see it myself and I think it's the main thing that's missing.
I've seen players 'caring' playing for Scotland when we were in doldrums - under Burley and Levein there were players who'd press the ball from miles away, then dive in to show commitment to the cause with no chance of getting it but really it half arsed so they didn't have to do the recover runs once the opposition skipped on by and they should have been much closer to them in the first place. When they actually do care they're not having to charge down from miles away and are putting the hard yards in to try and win it back and then they can stick a couple of crunching tackles in because they're not telegraphed from miles away.

I believe caring is shown by effort and application.
Teams under Macari and Pulis came off the field more or less exhausted after giving their all (yes,I appreciate there were one or two exceptions).
I’ve not seen anywhere near the effort and commitment from the majority of this squad.
Worst offender for me, Campbell. I don’t care if he’s in the supposed wrong position for him.
A lot don’t look all that bothered after a deafeat and walk off chatting 🤷

A lot don’t look all that bothered after a deafeat and walk off chatting 🤷 A proper pet hate of mine, that. I don't care whether a Stoke player personally knows an opposition player, get off the fucking pitch before you start catching up on old times.

I’m sure they care but that’s not enough. They lack a real desire to give 100%. In football when you give even 95% it’s not enough. That’s what separates the good from the average. We have a team of 95 percenters I think there are a few outliers in there as well, and by outliers, I mean less than 95%.

I honestly don’t think professional footballers go out not to try. The problem is some just don’t have it in their make up to battle and fight when the chips are down. We simply have too many of those in our squad. Not enough fight, character or desire. Chuck in a low skill set and you get inconsistency and a soft underbelly. We have consistently since relegation signed the wrong type of player from Ince and Adobe to the present incumbents. Add in a string of completely unsuitable managers and we are where we are.

Does my head in when they come off the pitch laughing and joking with opposition player mates with their hands over their mouths like they’re Messi or something. It certainly makes them look like they don’t care.

Keep hearing/ reading this and sorry but it’s just wrong. I can’t think of one player that looks like they don’t care.. maybe Wesley and Johnson but they aren’t even making the squad. Yes they aren’t the best players we’ve ever had but they are giving everything in recent weeks imo so we need to stop slagging them off, keep getting behind them and let’s get over the line Your thoughts please… It is just a cliche that fans reel out.

Following on this discussion from another post where I stated players should live within 30 minutes of Clayton Wood & bet365 stadium, not Alderley F…..ing Edge (although I suppose Lewis Hamilton could make it from there in 30 mins!) Anyway I was kind of accused of being naive thinking prof footballers would agree to living anywhere near Stoke (bit insulting IMO!) but I’m not suggesting a terrace house in Fenton or Shelton, there are some lovely places just outside the Potteries. Legendary managers Waddo and TP lived just this side of Crewe plus our World Cup legends lived as following: Gordon Banks near Loggerheads, Geoff Hurst at Baldwins Gate and Alan Ball near Leek. Means you’re sharing experiences with the fans whether shopping, eating out, on the school playground etc I think it’s important and feel daddy Coates and/or junior Coates ought to insist on it. (btw ex-L’pool and Wales international Joe Allen lived at Eccleshall so it can be achieved)

Laurent to me doesn't care,he makes out he does, but I don't think he does,
If he is here next season,he needs the captains armband taken away & given to Burger, who seemed to play better when he had the armband.

And yes there are many wonderful places to live in and around Stoke-on-Trent well within a 30 min drive. I used to live in a village where Tony Ford and big Brendan were regulars in the local boozers. Both nice fellas.

Most professionals will care, very few won't. It's like that in any career the person is passionate about.
What doesn't help them is a) They aren't all that good and b) they are in a rudderless ship due to being managed by a guy who doesn't know his arse from his elbow.
Bring someone in who can bring a bit of structure, understand his best 11 and play to their strengths and we wouldn't be in this mess. This league is full of garbage teams, only difference is most are organised enough to get points on the board.
