He still won plenty in the air despite not being able to jump and you can get away with a lot more at centre back. You also know the movement strikers are going to make so can anticipate that. He did his defensive duties really well and just his body shape and height makes him look like a centre half to me. He never looked like a striker. A decent coach could easily get him to where he needs to be if he wanted it. So Unai Emery failed in the decent coach stakes Head for the nearest exit folks Did he try to convert him to centre half? It was worth the risk. Villa were subsidising a lot of his wages so for a one-year “prove it” deal in a position we (thought) we needed? Not bad. Shame he’s trash.

Are you saying no one had heard of Wesley? Probably, if I'd asked some of mates before the transfer was announced I'm pretty sure a good percentage would have shrugged their shoulders. It was just a mis-fit signing from the get go, let's play attacking front-foot football "big reset", lets sign Wesley, it just didn't make sense. Nearly every Stoke fan was crying out for a target forward last summer. You couldn’t move on here for mention of a target forward. |

In the first couple of games, I thought that he would be excellent for us simply based on his stature. However, even with that frame, you have to be somewhat mobile. It will be interesting to see where he ends up as the lack of mobility will be a problem no matter where he goes. I hope he’s invested his PL money.

Possible and us missing out on targets is generally the problem. Oh well it's done and dusted now. I wish him well actually, he clearly doesn't have the mobility for this level and even division 3. |
