Palacios. I had forgot all about himđ Didnât realise he was still on our books in 2014. Not the best signing was he, even Coates Snr said buying him was a mistake. Coates quoteâŚ."We certainly thought at the time we were getting a very good player, but for whatever reason it hasn't worked out. I know he has had personal problems in the past â his brother was kidnapped and killed in 2009 â but sometimes you just don't know the reason why things don't work out. It's a great shame because it has cost us a huge amount of money, but it's also a shame for the player because his career hasn't developed either. We all lost. He did, we did." Think he was the first of many expensive signings that "didnât work out".

I was privileged to have been there and remember that they kept repeating it on MOTD. Seems like it was only yesterday all very depressing compared with where we are now.

We had some good days at Villa Park during the Premier league years The game highlighted Whelanâs last minute equaliser Moses last minute penalty 2 of the best mentals There for both, rank them 1 and 2 in terms of mentals, crowd just exploded for the Whelan one ground was shaking Special mention for Arnie at the semi at Anfield always stands out

Lambert looking clueless on the bench. A look we know all too well.

Lambert looking clueless on the bench. A look we know all too well. There's another video knocking about on the internet where it zooms in on John Coates as the 4th goes in. He's staring longingly at the Villa dugout thinking "If ever my club is in trouble, Lambert is the man I need".

No sign of us parking the bus there eh? Whatever his haters have to say, Arnie was a fkn God. Doubt we'll ever see his like again in the red and white stripes. Weirdly the thing that most stuck in my memory from those highlights was his pathetic attempt at a through-ball to Zonzi for #3. I can remember that exact split-second of frustration with him, and being in the middle of shouting âwtf was that??â when the defender malfunctioned and laid it on a plate anyway đ

Also Odemwingie what an absolute steal of a deal that was, include Beattie on to that list too.
Down to 10 men against Man City and that Beattie header live long in the memory.

29.03.2014 10 years to the day.. âHull's Liam Rosenior had the best chance of the first half, but could not find the target with a free headerâ. Today he was their manager. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/26694309

Whatever people say about Hughes, he gave us the best football weâve seen at stoke since the mid seventies. Thanks Mr Hughes.

But left a legacy that took years to mitigate.
He was given a gift, improved it in someways but ultimately - although not alone in this regard to Cartwright and John Coates - undermined years of progress.

Les lost the plot but it wasnât his âlegacyâ that assembled historyâs most expensive Championship squad and took it to 16th in div 2

Why we keep blaming Hughes for our current demise baffles me.
We would have likely stayed up if we kept him, instead we replaced him with Lambert. (He should have been let go at the end of the previous season)
The ÂŁ60m spent by Rowett is what crippled us, then consecutive poor managerial appointments and generally poor decision after poor decision by the owners.
Hughes produced a team that for the first time as a Stoke fan I genuinely thought we could beat anyone on the day, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham. Didnât matter I was confident.

Agree with all that aside from the bit about Hughes likely keeping us up. The problem was not sacking him sooner and when we did, replacing him with the manger of the Govan branch of Carphone Warehouse.

Staff are lovely in the Govan branch, got me a great deal on a sim only rolling contract. Even chucked in a phone case.
