He hated Stoke. We beat Fulham twice in one season when Pulis was here and was far less than complimentary in interviews after both game. Didn’t he also hang Shawcross out to dry when he was England’s manager? By actually playing him?

If you want to play at that level you have to handle the best strikers He gave him v debut and to be fair, he had a mare v a good player. Not Hodgson's fault

Don't think he was international level to be honest. Great club player

Not Hodgson's fault He gave him his debut half an hour in a nothing game against one of the best strikers in the world ... Ryan had awful luck with the Ramsey affair and then this owl faced twat rubbed salt in the wounds. I despise him actually and would love to smack his ugly face with a frying pan. He's always seemed a bit anti stoke to me. Actually think Lewington is his much needed nous and massive assistance.

Didn’t he also hang Shawcross out to dry when he was England’s manager? By actually playing him? Why do people say that? He bloody hung him out to dry. He didn’t want him in the squad. The media pressure at the time got him in the squad. Zlatan was tearing our best centre backs to bits so what does woy bloody do? Basically finish Ryan’s international career. What did good old bloody woy do the following season? When handing two Southampton players , I think lambert was one, their debuts he came out before the game at Wembley and said it’s important to give debuts at home to ease them in!!! I nearly through something at the tele on the miserable wazzack. I honestly can’t stand the bloke. I hope his health is all well, but as a football manager I’ll always have no respect for him

There was a lot of talk that he should be in the squad. What’s your answer to my above point on him?

Not Hodgson's fault I like Hodgson but he did Ryan no favours that night. On in the last part of the game with Sweden piling on pressure and Zlatan smelling blood. The beginning and end of his England career and it definitely stank of agenda.

Taken ill during training (he's 76!) and is in hospital. He never really made it as a player but is one of this country's greatest managers. He also struck me as a really nice guy.
No where near to being o no e of this countries greatest managers, shite for England,Shite for Liverpool.
Best wishes to Roy for a speedy recovery.

What’s your answer to my above point on him? The owl faced twat threw him under a bus good and proper. I know you shouldn't feel sorry for well paid professional footballers but I did for Ryan at the time and can always remember his face walking off the pitch after the Ramsey sending off.

What’s your answer to my above point on him? So a manager gave into the press but had a cunning plan I know -will pick him v Sweden, Zlatan will destroy him, we'll probably lose as a result but I'll have proved my point and will never have to pick him again Right

Shawcross was never good enough for England simple as that.
The conspiracy theories are fun to read on here though.

Ryan England debut 2012, two Southampton players 2013. Completely different opinion on where a player should make his England debut.

Shawcross was never good enough for England simple as that. The conspiracy theories are fun to read on here though. But that’s the point isn’t it? We don’t know if he was good enough because he never really got the chance to show it. Contrast with Harry Maguire who is forgiven for his countless errors because he’s a ‘top club’ player. It’s not really conspiracy. It’s just the way things are.

He was a better manager abroad than in England, and he was an absolutely useless England manager. At Liverpool he was poor, Fulham decent, West Brom not great- no , sorry don’t think that he’s been anything special in the UK. I hope that his health improves.

The Sweden game - Cahill started with Caulker (only cap) & Shawcross came on.
Cahill stayed away from Zlatan all night leaving the two debutants to deal with one of the best players in the world, on their first step up to that level.
Can you imagine a Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell or Adams leaving it to the new guy?

TP said at the time that he thought Ryan was ‘cold’ when he was brought on..not properly warmed up and completely hung out to dry against one of the best strikers in the world at the time.

Don't wish him ill but personally I think he is a horrible arrogant cunt. Really?? I think he seems like a nice bloke overall. Look at his interviews where he has a foul mouthed rant at a reporter, or the day after he'd finished with England interview, where he states he doesn't even know why he has to be here, doing the press conference.
